Extractions: Jayadeva was born at Kenduvilva (presently Kenduli) village in the district of Birbhum around the 11th century. According to Vanamali dasa, the author of Jayadevacaritra, and a disciple of Srinivasa Acarya, Jayadeva was alive in the 15th century. It would therefore, seem that the author was not aware of the contemporary historical events during Jayadevas lifetime. It is recorded (in an ancient manuscript of Gita Govinda) that Jayadeva was a court pandita during the reign of Raja Laksmana Sena of Gauda. Evidently, Jayadeva was of a much earlier period. Bhaktimahatmya in Sanskrit, and also Bhaktamala, provide information on Jayadeva as follows: At an early age Jayadeva embraced vairagya and migrated to Purusottama ksetra, where he lived by offering seva to Purusottama. Lord Jagannatha was pleased by Jayadevas bhakti-bhava. The ruler of Orissa was also extremely fond of him. Jayadeva gave diksa to some of his disciples there.

Extractions: TIRUPATI is a temple and a pilgrim town. Located at the foot of the Tirumala Hills on which the ancient and beautiful temple of Lord Venkateswara stands. Spread over seven hills, this township is the most picturesque pilgrimage centre in the south. One must see the fervour with which the devotees stand in long queues for a glimpse of their Lord. Masses of coins, jewellery and hair are received as offerings. Devotees enjoy conducting devotional prayers of Lord Venkateswara. Every morning it is good for all devotees to chant Venkateswara Suprabhatham in their houses. Children may think it is too long and difficult to learn, but that is not true. It is better to buy an audio cassette to learn the pronounciation and read the following whilst listening to the cassette. Those who know the Indian languages can get a copy in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil and read this easily. This is very auspicious to learn and chant daily in the morning. Dr Ramakrishna Gupta who provided this text and translation learned it in his childhood in his birth place Sringeri. When you come to Balaji Temple why not bring a printed copy of this and chant along with all other devotees and you will really enjoy this prayer.
