These were the first Jewish cemeteries established in the New Haven area. This list was originally prepared for the State of Connecticut in the 1930s, and is known as the Hale Collection. The latest dates of death shown here are in 1934. Since gravestones were sometimes not set for a year or more after death, all burials for 1933 and 1934 may not be shown. The earliest burial in Mishkan Israel is in 1845 and the earliest in Bene Scholem is 1856. The entries below show the name of the deceased, the date of death, and the cemetery. The last four digits are the page number on which the listing can be found in the original Hale records. Occasionally there is more information available than is shown on the list below.
