Alonzo Melville Atkinson was one of Indiana's best gifts to the movement for the Restoration of Apostolic Christianity, to which cause he gave himself very early in life, and in which he exercised a very large influence. He was born near Columbus, Indiana, in February, 1833. When but a lad he went to Indianapolis and learned the trade of bookbinder. In 1803 he married Mrs. N. E. Burns, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. At the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted in the Sixteenth Indiana Infantry. Within ten days after entering the service he was wounded and taken prisoner, and within a week thereafter he was paroled. While this was but a glance at army life (and some men see things at a glance), he was greatly impressed with the needs of his soldier comrades, and it once sought and received from Governor Morton a sanitary officer's commission, and went to work gathering supplies for soldiers, in hospital and field, taking the same direct to these places to meet emergencies. He took the first boat load of supplies to Indiana soldiers and personally directed the delivery of the same. He continued this line of service during the war, doing untold good. Soon after the close of the war he became solicitor for the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Orphans' Home, at Kingstown. For two years worked under the American Missionary Society, as solicitor for the freedmen of the South. In 1867 he entered the ministry of the gospel, and served the churches at Wabash and Delphi, Indiana, for about two years, when he decided on a business course in life, and became General Agent for the Aetna Life Insurance Company. They are only theoretical machines for mathematics and computer science. Register machines and turing machines have the same origin, the history of the latter starting at around 1900. The german mathematician David Hilbert (1862-1943) presented a proposal on the international mathemathician congress in Paris 1900: to root the whole mathematical theorems to a small amount of axioms. These axioms should be independent of each other and as simple as possible. Starting on these axioms, all theorems would be proofed. Hilbert thought that there may be a, yet undefined, way to give and proof every mathematical theorem. This hypothesis is known as Entscheidungsproblem To investigate further on the Entscheidungsproblem the british mathematician Alan Mathison Turing (1912-1954) did some experiments with general algorithms. At this time the computing machines were nearly 300 years old. There were Blaise Pascals (1623-1662) machine, able to subtract and Charles Babbages (1782-1871) 'Analytical Engine' and finally Hermann Holleriths (1860-1929) machine to analyse the data of the census of population. All these machines working with a fixed algorithm. But the advancement of the 'Analytical Engine' of Charles Babbage had some parts to allow variable algorithms. The looms of Joseph Marie Jaquard had a variable algorithm too: they were controlled by punch cards.

Hezekiah was a private and was engaged in the battles at Cane Hill and Prairie Grove in Arkansas and Honey Springs and Fort Gibson in Oklahomia. He was in numersous raids and scouts in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahomia, and Arkansas. Most of his service was as a partison ranger. The troops were frequently engaged in guerrilla activities and their principal duties were to harass the enemy.

Extractions: format this article to print DAWSON, ALONZO N. (1854-1923). Alonzo N. Dawson, architect, was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on January 18, 1854. He married Carrie Rickard in 1878 in Paris, Texas, and they had two children. Dawson, who lived in Fort Worth and later in Houston, had a twenty-five-year career that covered the end of the Romanesque Revival period and the beginnings of new architectural styles such as the Neoclassical. He produced a number of significant churches and public buildings in which he demonstrated his competence with Romanesque Revival stonework and displayed a skillful eclecticism by including design elements from such other styles as Gothic and Norman. Early in his career Dawson designed two buildings in Johnson County, the Cleburne Public School (1883) and the Johnson County Jail (1884). The two-story masonry jail was built on a T plan to house iron and steel cell blocks constructed elsewhere. From 1885 to 1900 Dawson lived and practiced in Fort Worth. He entered a brief partnership in 1885 with Marshall R. Sanguinet, qv a prominent Fort Worth architect, and helped plan Ann Waggoner Hall at Polytechnic College of the Methodist Episcopal Church (now Texas Wesleyan College), Fort Worth. Waggoner Hall, a three-story Queen Anne-style structure, housed all functions of the college except the men's dormitories. Later, working as supervising architect, Dawson directed construction of the First Baptist Church, Fort Worth (1887-89), a Gothic Revival structure designed by Illinois architects Bullard and Bullard. The Fort Worth church included rusticated limestone walls, rounded towers, and Gothic windows, features that Dawson incorporated later in churches in Beaumont and Houston.
