    Extractions: Bernoulli nació en Groningen (Países Bajos), el 29 de enero de 1700 y desde muy pronto manifestó su interés por las matemáticas. Aunque consiguió un título médico en 1721, fue profesor de matemáticas en la Academia Rusa de San Petersburgo en 1725. Posteriormente dio clases de filosofía experimental, anatomía y botánica en las universidades de Groningen y Basilea, en Suiza. Utilizó conceptos atomísticos para intentar desarrollar la primera teoría cinética de los gases, explicando su comportamiento bajo condiciones de presión y temperatura cambiantes en términos de probabilidad. Sin embargo, este trabajo no tuvo gran repercusión en su época. Bernoulli murió el 17 de marzo de 1782 en Basilea.

Sobrinho do famoso físico e matemático Jacques (ou Jakob) Bernoulli (o criador dos números de Bernoulli, que desenvolveram o uso do cálculo infinitesimal),filho de Johann Bernoulli (doutor em Medicina e professor de Física Aplicada da Universidade de Basiléia), Daniel nasceu em Gröningen, na Holanda, a 9 de fevereiro de 1700. Os Bernoulli estavam radicados na cidade havia algum tempo, pois Johann era catedrático na universidade local. Em 1705, com a morte de Jakob, eles retomaram à Basiléia, pois coube a Johann assumir o lugar do irmão à testa da cadeira de matemática da importante universidade Aos treze anos, Daniel já iniciava seus estudos de Filosofia e Lógica, completando o curso colegial em dois anos. Durante esse período, ele recebeu ensinamentos de Matemática de seu próprio pai e, especialmente, do irmão mais velho, Nikolaus. O verdadeiro desejo familiar, entretanto, era encaminhá-lo para a carreira de comerciante. Among the wide range of Mathematics pertaining to the Bernoullis are Bernoulli Numbers, Bernoulli Differential Equation, Bernoulli's Principle of Fluid Dynamics, Bernoulli Trial, Bernoulli Inequality, etc. Jacob (1654-1705) is the first of the Bernoullis to make Mathematics a career, despite pressure to seek a career elsewhere. Erst im Alter von 35 Jahren wurde er, nach der Beschäftigung mit den Arbeiten von Huygens und Descartes, selber forschend tätig und erhielt im Jahre 1687 eine Professur in seiner Heimatstadt Basel. Sein jüngerer Bruder Johann hatte Medizin studiert, wurde aber ebenso wie er von der Mathematik angesteckt und er war ein gelehriger Schüler seines Bruders. Johann schloß sein Medizinstudium ab, doch schon 1695 bekam er eine Professur im holländischen Groningen. Entscheidend für die wissenschaftliche Arbeit der Brüder war Leibnizens Veröffentlichung 1684 über die Differential-rechnung. Sie erkannten rasch die Bedeutung des Rechnens mit dem 'unendlich-Kleinen' und konnten diese Methode bei vielen geometrischen und physikalischen Problemen anwenden. Sie verloren sich nicht in philosophischen Gedanken, sondern benutzten pragmatisch den Vorteil dieses neuen Kalküls.
