Extractions: Labour has announced that Alec McInnes, the well-known local campaigner and former Conservative, has joined the Labour Party and is standing against the Conservatives in his home ward of Bury Green. Alec said: "In being proposed as the Labour candidate for Bury Green, I had to give it a lot of thought before accepting. I began the campaign to defend Peace Close at a time when I was not aligned to any political party. Because of subsequent support from Labour concillors, I made the decision to join the Labour Party. But I have insisted that the Peace Close campaign remain independent. "I was for a while a member of the Conservative Party, but as a matter of principle chose to leave - a choice I am quote happy to have made. Bury Green holds a lot of fond feelings in my heart, therefore I welcome the opportunity to voice the problems of my fellow residents." Labour spokesman Malcolm Aitken responded: "On behalf of Broxbourne Constituency Labour Party, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Alec onboard. "Alec left the Conservative Party because he could no longer tolerate their neglect of local people's needs. He has already shown himself determined to make Bury Green and the surrounding area a better place to live, defending our green spaces from the Tories. I know he will be an enormous asset to our party and, more importantly, to the people of this borough.

Extractions: Pnuemonia brought on by malnutrition and alcholism Inducted into the sport of boxing's prestigious hall of fame in 1998. Background Benny Lynch was generally considered one of the finest boxers below lightweight in the pre-Second World War era, and is generally regarded as the greatest fighter ever to come out of Great Britain. Standing only at 5'5'', Lynch was born in the deprived immigrant area of the Gorbals in Glasgow, Scotland in 1913, and turned pro in 1931 at 18 years old. His early boxing experiences were played out in the arduous environment of travelling booths (carnivals) which were a popular form of entertainment at the time throughout the West of Scotland. It was on this circuit which he developed his formidable boxing skills. Lynch also possessed awesome punching power, which is seldom found in flyweights before or since. "Our Benny" was a man of the people and developed into one of the biggest attractions in the history of the division, and was fiercely popular in his home country. On 16th May 1934 he won the Scottish flyweight title with a 15-round decision over Jim Campbell in Glasgow. A rematch with Campbell a month later ended with the same result. He continued this prolific form and went 20-0-1 in 1934 and into 1935. In March 1935, he drew with British and European flyweight king Jackie Brown, which set up a showdown with Brown six months later with Brown's titles at stake for the rematch. Brown was also recognised in Europe at the time as the legitimate world champion.

That talent, consisting of 46 students and 16 teachers, came from the participants in the school's annual end-of-the-year lip-sync contest. The contest, which is open to all fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders, elementary vocal music teacher Bev Wiebe-Brown said, is "the one chance the kids have to do the music they like as long as it's appropriate." This year's contest consisted of 16 separate student performances and one very popular teachers' performance.

Extractions: Your committee has been active in various ways, notably in the preparation of the Constitution for the Association, which we hope to have approved at the Annual General Meeting to follow the 1961 Championships. We feel that it would be to our common advantage to make representations to the various Regatta Organizers regarding the order of start in races. To this effect, a letter is being prepared in which reference will be made to the Portsmouth Yardstick and recommending that the order of our start be after the Lightning and before the Albacore Classes. In this way, we will be less liable to interference from other boats, and if a Wayfarer should overtake another Class, the more credit to the Wayfarer. A Trophy in the form of a Silver Tray has been presented to the Queen City YC by Wayfarer owners of that club, for annual Wayfarer competition at their Regatta. Thanks to those members that contributed to this new Class Trophy. Next season should see the CWOA as members of the Canadian Yachting Association. Up to the present, the Class has been represented by Mike Lansdown on the Canadian Centreboard Classes Committee, formed last year to represent Centreboard interests within the CYA. When the CWOA becomes a member of the CYA, owners will have a vote in the CYA General Meetings and will be able to participate more fully in the yachting world.

Nov. 25th at 8 p.m. or so. Films taken during the Class Championships will be shown during the evening. Drinks will be served regardless of provincial regulations. (Henry may run short, so bring your own as well.) A resume of this past seasons sailing and summary of next years activities planned for Wayfarers has been forwarded to the leading Yachting publications in the U.S. and the U.K. Wayfarer owners in the U.S.A. have formed their own Association - the Wayfarer Owners Association of the U.S.A. We wish them every success and look forward to keen competition from over the border next year. Already an invitation has been extended to Canadian owners to take part in races at Detroit next year. Our Chief Measurer, Arthur Earl, has prepared a report for the Committee on Wayfarers measured to date. The figures show that a majority of the boats are equipped with oversize sails. In order to protect the Wayfarer as a one design, and be fair with present owners, the Committee has made the following rulings:
