Great data for techies
Encounter in the Pleiades is one of the best books of this type that I've read so far.I've ordered more by these authors and enjoy many hours of reading their exciting stories.

Thought Provoking And Bizzarre
If there was ever a book that defined the old saying 'truth is stranger than fiction' this is the book assuming this book is true.I personally believe a lot of it is true or at least it's a true interpretation of events as the author perceived them.

Mr. Nichols is an engineer and a real person who got pulled into some of these top secret government projects.He indicates that this involvement did not occur by chance but was his destiny because of his relationship with beings that live on planets in the Pleiades constellation of stars.

The world is lucky that guys like Mr. Nichols and Al Bielek even have a brain left.Anyone involved in projects like this eventualy gets the old 'debriefing' treatment.I think Dunkin Cameron is legally brain dead.

Mr. Nichols describes an apparent attempt on his life which required major surgery when a government agent knocked him out with a stun gun while he was driving.He 'got too close' to knowing the truth about their intentions to use the Star Wars system as a mind control vehicle against the entire human race.

Therein lies the frightening aspect of this entire subject in general.It appears that there are top secret projects going on and that human life is expendible if someone becomes a threat to whatever the goals of the project are.Making it even more frightening is that some of the people that are driving these projects may have connections to beings from other planets whose intentions appear to be malevolent towards the human race.

I think most people believe in God, Satan, angels, etc., or at least some form of beings that are above the human which are either good or bad.This book sort of stays consistent with this idea but these beings are portrayed as coming from other planets in some cases.There does appear to be a relationship between what this book says and traditional beliefs about evil beings such as the followers of the Leviathon possibly coming from a certain area of the galaxy.

This only makes what to me is a very frightening idea even more frightening.

The second part of this book is by Peter Moon who tells how the Pleiades constellation fits into mythology and other ancient legends about the human race.I tend to agree that those mythological stories hold hidden meanings that have a basis in reality at some level.They are probably symbolicly written stories that indicate spiritual truths and real events similar to the Adam and Eve story.

Moon gets into a large amount of other philosophy such as tying this stuff in with the bible and other things.He has a background in scientology and other strange philosophies.

The art work on the cover of this book and the other one I've read so far is excellent.I like the horse on 'The Montauk Project'.This is a depiction of the mysterious horse the Montauk boys saw when they were sent to the year 6037 AD.If you turn the horse upside down it forms another picture.Moon expands on the possible meaning of this horse.

On page 88 Mr. Nichols offers a possible explanation for the large bulge that could be observed in Von Neumann's trowsers.This was apparently the result of a procedure that was performed on him by alien beings.

I enjoy these books a lot but the reader must be very careful not to assume that Satanism and witchcraft are the same as other religions.They are not.As far as I've heard Aleister Crowley was a very evil man and wherever Crowley went blood shed was sure to follow as it apparently did at Montauk.Some of the Montauk boys were beaten to death to try to get them to cooperate with the homosexual activities and time travel that were all part of the Montauk project.My understanding is this was one of the things that drove Mr. Nichols and Dunkin Cameron to create a creature out of Dunkin's subconscious to destroy the equipment for the Montauk project.

As I said this stuff gets really bizarre.

I would never want to be involved in anything like this to the level that Mr. Nichols is.Sooner or later they'll give you the old 'debriefing' treatment.The brilliant mathematician Von Neumann ended up with a split personality who could remember very little of his experiences on these secret projects.

The first half is great!
While the dinky drawing on the cover wasn't encouraging, and then when I turned to the Bibliography I was ready to forget reading it at all. However the material presented by Preston.B. Nichols on UFOs and implants at the front of the book was excellent! Unfortunately the rest of the 'fill in' by Peter Moon I considered absolute rubbish. Read anything by Mr. Nicols on this subject and you will not be disappointed....

Intriguing mix of science, UFOlogy & US govt conspiracy
The author does a revealing job of covering most aspects of UFO phenomena, including implants and abductions, asserting the US government uses both for mind control. He also mentions his own involvement in the "Philadelphia Experiment" where the US military allegedlytransported a manned warship through space-time.

He covers the "extensions" of modern Physics behind "realityengineering" for interstellar travel, but, as a Physics graduate and aserious UFOlogist, I found the physics of this ("twisters & spinners") superficial and incomprehensible. Bare-bones skeleton assertions rather than meaningful explanation.

Half the book is written by his co-writer, mostly his own spiritual& UFO ideas, with strong Scientology leanings. The closing remarks that"our time line hasdiverged from the Creator's, who is now absent from our world" is pure intellectual fantasy on the author's part, since anyone who has tapped Christ Consciousness / Buddha Nature throughtheir own spiritual practice will know from experience, beyond doubt, that the Creator is present in every living thing, especially oneself.

Despite the book's title, a mere five pages of the text are devoted to life in Pleiadean society. They're interesting in their own way, but I have to wonder whether they're authentic or science-fiction. Presumably the Pleiadeans don't want readers to know much about their world?

If you're interested in implants, government conspiracy, and extra info on Philadelphia, it's worth a read; if you're interested in the Pleiadeans, forget it. ... Read more

Hudson Valley UFOs
This is the second, and updated, edition of a book describing a remarkable series of UFO sightings in the Hudson Valley area, to the north of New York City. They began at the end of 1982. UFO hotspots are often in relatively remote areas, but the Hudson Valley is populous, and within commuting distance of New York City. References to 'New York' in what follows refer to New York State, not New York City. The sightings occurred in southern New York and in Connecticut, involving places such as Bedford, Brewster, Carmel, Danbury and Fairfield.

J. Allen Hynek, who died in 1986, was a professor emeritus and chairman of the astronomy department at Northwestern University. It was he who introduced the well-known UFO classification scheme that includes Close Encounters of the First, Second and Third Kinds.The second author, Philip Imbrogno, is a science teacher. The third author, Bob Pratt, was a journalist. He died in 2005.

The authors refer to themselves in the first person plural (we/us). However, since Hynek died in 1986, he obviously didn't participate in every interview and enquiry described in the updated version of the book, which refers to 7,046 UFO sighting reports between 1982 and 1995. This figure of 7,046 no doubt refers to individual witness reports, not separate incidents, although there do appear to have been a large number of the latter (but presumably nowhere near 7,046). Chapter 17 of the book includes a number of interesting charts, giving statistical data about the sightings. They indicate, for example, that a large majority of the sightings involved a boomerang-, triangle-, or V-shaped object, which was mostly judged to be at least 100 feet across.

The following examples give some flavour of what was reportedly experienced.

Shortly before midnight on 31 December 1982, Tony Vallor (pseudonym) saw a group of very bright lights to the south of his home in Kent, New York - some red, some green, and some white. He called to his wife to bring their movie camera. By the time she emerged from the house, the lights were almost directly over it. To Vallor, they appeared to be connected to some sort of structure, with a boomerang- or V-shape. He was aware of a faint, deep hum, and a deep vibrating sensation in his chest. The object was maybe 500 feet above them. When he began filming, the coloured lights immediately disappeared and were replaced by three bright white lights. After what may have been five seconds, the white lights went out and the coloured ones reappeared. The object passed slowly overhead, towards Interstate 84.The authors report that they saw Vallor's film, but the lights didn't show up well, and no structure was visible.

A 55 year-old warehouse foreman called Edwin Hansen also reported having seen the object, apparently just after the Vallors had seen it. He was driving home on Interstate 84 at the time. The UFO was projecting a beam of light to the ground, but Hansen heard no noise from the craft. He thought to himself that he would like it to come closer and give him a better look. Immediately, it began to descend and head towards his car, its 'searchlight' now switched off. He became apprehensive and frantically blew his horn, vainly hoping to scare it away. He raised his hands to shield his eyes from the light, which was intense. The object again projected down a beam of white light, which fell on the road ahead and then moved towards Hansen's car. Thoroughly frightened, he pleaded for the object to go away. He reportedly felt "thoughts that weren't [his] own, but a kind of voice telling [him] not to be afraid." (The authors indicate that this was a comment they were to hear a number of times in relation to the sightings.) The object suddenly turned away, and the beam of light disappeared.

UFOs have a habit of turning up over 'sensitive' locations, and this was apparently the case in the Hudson Valley area, since witnesses testified to sightings involving the Indian Point nuclear reactor complex at Buchanan, New York, on 14 June and 24 July 1984 (discussed in Chapter 11 of the book). Regarding the second sighting, one of the witnesses said that the object was about the size of three football fields.

In addition to the many reports of straightforward UFO sightings, the authors were told of other strange experiences, which may have been linked with the UFO phenomena. For example, on pp. 181-182, they describe an incident reported to them by a woman called Ellen. She was awoken one night in April 1983 by a male voice, which frightened her. Her husband was beside her, but she was unable to wake him. The mysterious voice, which was getting louder, seemed to be speaking gibberish, but then - clearly and loudly - it said, "Do not be afraid. We will not harm you." It seemed to be coming from a radio in the room, but Ellen knew that the device was switched off. Then she saw flashes of multicoloured lights through the skylight above the bed, and she heard a low humming sound, as if something were just above the house. She tried to get out of bed, but there appeared to be an invisible weight on her legs. A beam of white light suddenly came through the skylight, engulfing her and her sleeping husband. Her next recollection was of waking at 8 a.m. The couple got up, feeling as if they had been awake all night, and they were uneasy and irritable for the rest of the morning. When Ellen eventually told her husband what she had experienced, he said that he had dreamt about seeing a UFO and a beam of light, and of being taken on board. However, he was apparently unwilling to discuss the matter with the authors. Ellen's account is therefore uncorroborated.

The authors note that although area newspapers, radio and TV stations carried stories about the Hudson Valley sightings, there was little in terms of national coverage. They claim that law enforcement agencies, state and federal governments, and the military ignored the phenomenon, and that the Federal Aviation Administration persistently denied its existence. They explain that some sightings arose from small planes flying in formation, but the vast majority of sightings couldn't be accounted for in those terms.

In conclusion, I would say that this is a very interesting book, although it would have greatly benefited from one or more maps, showing the locations mentioned in the text. It would also have benefited from a more comprehensive index.

A for research, F for conclusions
In the UFO community the ulitmate problem is that unless you can disprove something seen as a military jet or known celestial body there is no final conclusion. For all the splendid research and fact gathering at best you're left with questions, like "what the flock was it?"

Night Siege is an excellent example of this. The authors have compiled massive amounts of info on sights, checked witnesses and compared sightings...and that is it.

Obviously there are no final conclusions but also there are no attempts at theory by the authors. No comparrison between different events to look for patterns or similarities, beyond the obvious, or anything drawn to *why* these events happened in the great river valley just north of NYC. It *is* an excellent piece of research with not even an attmept at an explanation of what happened.

Ultimately if you are interest in UFO's and just want a compilation of time/place/sighting to add to your own research, this is a VERY good book. But if you want the writers to engage you with theories or conclusions, this is going to leave you badly wanting.

A conglomeration of related sightings
The experiential information described in the book is interesting enough but gets rather tiring about half way through as witnesses describe more of the same lights proceeding southwest or northeast, moving up and down, blinking, etc, etc.If you're someone who has long gotten over the notion that THERE ARE UFO's then this reading will seem like one, long, run-on report from numerous witness about the strange lights and craft they observed in the mostly night skies of northern New York state.This book is synonymous and a good companion to "Phoenix Lights" where onlookers marvel at the appearance of symetrical arrangements of mysterious lights in the night sky.Some of the sightings are quite compelling but, once again: Yeah, and ???????

Night Siege is My Favorite
Night Siege is about a series of incredible sightings that took place in the early 1980s. Most of the evidence and accounts presented here seem believable and realistic, from ordinary people who have seen something truly unexplainable. On one occasion, this object was even filmed by a local resident. The tape was then analyzed in a multimillion dollar computer that had processed images of outer space, form many of NASA's space flights. The scientist in charge concluded that whatever was on the tape could not be proven as an earthly phenomena. To this day it remains a mystery.

I heartily recommend this book, and I think it is well wroth the time and money to read it carefully. I am also disappointed that the U.S. Government refuses to disclose any records of the object, or conduct further research. I also commend Philip Imbrogno on the thoroughness of his work, and ot this day he remains one of my favorite UFO author. There are far fewer wildly bizarre, implausible conclusions, allegations or assertions than in many other UFO books. This preserves the credibility of the entire incident admirably. A must read.

Good, but not the best on the market
Yet another anthology about UFO religions, written by and for members of the realm of higher education, has seen the light of day. The anthology is divided into sections dealing with specific movements, certain elements or directions within the movements, and general analyses of different religious interpretations of the UFO phenomenon. And it is the latter sections that perhaps are most appealing to the "normal" reader, since the other sections do not offer an understanding of the whole picture, but instead focus on specific areas of religious research.

However, when it comes to religious research (and other research, as well), it's often necessary to understand all the little pieces in order to gain an understanding of the larger one, and thus all contributions in the anthology has something to offer, even if the "normal" reader is likely to be able to deal with long and thorough discussions about the different karma-relations found in UNARIUS, how the recently deceased psychiatrist Dr. John Mack makes parallels between shamanistic visions and alien abductions, or the history behind the not-so well known movement The United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors.

For us Europeans, two sections are of particular interest. These sections deal with the history of UFO spirituality in Germany and our neighboring country of Finland. Even though most books in the genre don't focus on North America exclusively; it's still a welcome change to find an in-depth discussion about the European scene. Unfortunately, no critical voice is raised against Finnish ufologist Rauni-Leena Luukanen-Kilde, which is rather strange since she has been one of the most severely criticised New Age ufologists. Another dilemma is the date of the founding of The Aetherius Society. One chapter says it's 1954 (the same year the movement itself claims it was founded), while another chapter argues for it to be 1956. The proof-reading has missed several typos here and there, but luckily they aren't too many and overall impression remains unaltered.

Famous psychologist Carl Jung and his theories about flying saucers being a modern myth is thoroughly discussed, which I must say is a welcome change, since his theories are often mentioned briefly in other books but seldom is discussed more thoroughly. His ideas about UFOs and extraterrestrials being "technological angels" are definitely worth a closer look.

Another excellent chapter rationally (and easily understood) deals with apocalyptic tendencies within the alien abduction phenomenon and also the UFO phenomenon in general, even though the author Daniel Wojcik from time to time has a tendency to repeat himself. It's still, though, a contribution worth reading several times, and that is not always the case with certain other contributions.

UFO Religions is, overall, an anthology very much worth reading, and it's a much cheaper alternative to The Encyclopedic Sourcebook of UFO Religions, the other anthology about UFO religions to have been published recently.

Useful if slightly overlong overview
Although this book simply consists of a number of articles by various academics around the world it is quite entertaining and covers the sociological and psychological (if not the neuroscientific) aspects of this minor but interesting phenomenon rather well. However, there are a number of irritations: firstly, the Editor (Christopher Partridge) should have had a quiet word with Garry Trompf and politely but firmly encouraged this 'Professor in the History of Ideas at Sydney University' to re-draft his contribution. It may contain an intriguing comparison of UFO religions and Cargo Cults but is written in an absurdly convoluted style that is replete with unnecessary jargon like 'apotropaic', 'mythological macrohistory', 'sectlet'and 'scientismic'. You'll need to borrow the Universal Translator from Star Trek to cope with this kind of gibberish. Secondly, Jodi Dean's article is just plain pompous and should have been left out altogether for its quite laughable assertion that Independence Day is homophobic. However, Partridge's introductory overview is lively and informative and other conributors have been particularly perceptive on matters such as, for example, the relationship between Heaven's Gate and established New Age thinking. Finally, the book may be about a fringe phenomenon but I found myself rethinking my ideas about mainstream religion as a consequence. A dissapointing "tabloid" quiltwork
In an examination of government conspiracies versus the UFO phenomena one would expect greater in depth proof of conspiracy other than "they wouldnt let me see top secret and or classified information".

Thisbook is a patchwork of unrelated tales where no proof is offered regardingthe UFO visitations claimed and that the only reason it has beenunatainable are various governments have not spent enourmous budgetsinvestigating each sighting and therefore they are covering up what indeedis suspected to have happened.

Great assortment of Paranormal locations
I never get tired of good (true) ghost stories, and have visited many places with a haunted history.This book is loaded with places to see, with the legends surrounding them well told.I like that he touches on several different, if less likely, types of paranormal activity (Im not sold on Bigfoot!). The travel directions he includes are a great idea, most books do not give such details. This is the kind of book I would recommend if you like to actually visit such places, and he gives you many to choose from.

A-1 Reference Guide
I have owned this book for some time and can say that it is very accurate in the information given. It is well written and the information seems to be well researched. This guide includes information on the stories of these locations, and directions as well as current info on the sites. If you really love to visit haunted places this book is well worth the money and time spent reading it.

Recommended Paranormal Reference
This book is easy to navigate, very informative, and well written.I really enjoy reading this book and; when I travel to an area, I reread the information about the ghosts there.I don't believe Haunted Places is 100% complete, but I still recommend it to anyone interested in the ghosts of the United States.

Lots of places; very little info
This isn't a bad book at all. I just had a different idea of what it would include. If you are truly looking for a directory of places all across the country and you plan to do some traveling, this is your book. However, if you're like me and plan to do more reading than traveling, this isn't the book for you. It really, truly is a directory. Think phone book...it has the location names, addresses and a few sentences on the locations' haunted activity. If that's what you're looking for, buy this book. However, if you're looking for an enjoyable read - this one isn't it. Again, it really is a directory.

Where to go to experience strange things first hand
This book is a state-by-stae guide to haunted sites: cemetaries, neighborhoods, houses, schools, historical sites - you name it, if it was ever reported as experiencing paranormal occurrences, it's listed here.

Each site is linked to at least one item in the bibliography (many to more than one) where additional info can be found. (The bibliography has more than 230 items.) Hauck gives detailed information himself on each site and then tells exactly where each can be found. It's a thorough reference tool for anybody interested in this kind of phenonoma.

Particular Tales of Extraterrestrial Zoom-Zooms
Popular belief amongst those who have crossed paths with this humble yet frizzy-haired critic indicates that I am not exactly a product of an entirely Earthian enterprise. Wherever I was found, and whomever found me, was it a going most bold? How in the names of heckfire and spandex does my enigmatic origin relate to this compilation. Heyyyyyyy....depending on the fella or gal who has an opinion, the outerspace-oids are my kinda wackybells! "The UFO Files" was a pleasant zephyr of a diversion to a week that has been hectic, a deluge of missed memos gone ka-fizzle and business transactions ending in the berzerko file due to the various imperfections and inconsistencies in the average homo sapien's work habits. BUT WAIT, THERE IS A BOOK ABOUT WHICH TO BE TALKED HERE!! Oh, yeah...Some great tales:

"Ordinary Aliens"--They came from another galaxy to tell us how to pray! A mirthful romp with a potent punchline!
"Emma Baxter's Boy"--Whatchoo got in that there basement? Lemme take a looky-see..OH MY GOD IT'S A HUNGRY CRITTER..*CRUNCH*...Not much room to roam for a topic that's been addressed previously, but also not a bad story!
"Amid the Walking Wounded"--A man with a massive nosebleed. What is the correllation between the endless flow of crimson from the nasal cavity and the odd dark shapes that lurk in his peripheral vision?? Tightly told and avoids a clearly-defined explanation so the reader can draw his/her conclusions with a smirk!
"Daddy Dearest"--This is the queer cat of the collection because the plot involves a deceased daddy's ashes conversatin' like he was still amongst the living, tormenting his offspring, resulting in the rolls of the eyes and the exhausted sighs...but where do the aliens go? This story isn't parallel to anything else in the book but who cares? It's funny!

The aforementioned tales are the elite; the remainder are all noteworthy. The reason for a 4-star rating rather than a 5-star rating is that the book isn't sufficiently malevolent. I mean to state that not all aliens that wander into rural Idaho or downtown Chicago or the Hot Topic in the Mall of America are saying "Oops, I dropped something" or "Just looking, thanks, no intent to buy..or swipe...or kidnap. Got a food court?"

Good Reporting and my UFO adventure for free -

The long story -
I figure I better write this all out...

Beginning of June I start to notice an odd light at 9:46 in the
evening and it appears to be descending onto what is known locally as
Satan's Butte. The locals have tales about a large snake that lived on
top of the butte and ancient rituals were performed around a huge fire
- the snake would emerge and "wishes" were granted. If cows or sheep
wandered into the vicinity - they were just left to the
butte...Knowing this and that in the past a craft was seen to enter
the crater formed inside Satan's Butte I was curious. (you know the
Navajo are never gonna admit this but it is what I was told last year)

I went into the house and told my wife Claudia that I had seen
something descending into Satan's Butte. She rolled her eyes and asked
when she should call the men in white jackets. I swore I saw something
that appeared to be cylindrical and had flashing red lights in the
middle.

Two night later, I rushed into the house and told her to look out
because it was descending again. She was not quick enough and missed
the craft. I then told her that I was going to Flagstaff to Best Buy
and buy a good camera so I could photograph it next time it landed.

Having bought a Nikon, I waited and waited...

One night I felt I needed to go out and get water and check the
horses. Upon walking out of our home I looked west and sure enough
there was the craft descending into Satan's Butte. I ran in the house
grabbed the camera, binoculars and my wife. We watched as not just one
but two craft descended into Satan's Butte. The one craft seemed to
emit an odd floating tendril with bright orbs attached. (My sister in
law has since confirmed that she saw these orbs as far north as
Sunrise seeming to hover over the windmill on the same evening) You
can see the tendril and orbs in the picture. We watched for about ten
minutes as it descended and then it was gone.

The next morning I sent the pictures and a brief report to MUFON (
[...] ) and was called at my home
within minutes of the report hitting the net! I got a call from a lady
at MUFON! - she asked if I would be willing to be interviewed that
evening - I said sure - Dominic from Phoenix interviewed me for two
hours - amazing - they were intrigued by the photos. We talked and
exchanged e-mails over the next couple weeks till I got word that some
"Navajo Rangers" were coming out to see the site!

I thought "yeah right" Dominic said 9:30 on Friday and I thought sure sure...

I went down and checked (the butte being about three miles from our
home) and sure enough some feds were at Satan's Butte. They were
driving "Navajo Ranger" vehicles and were very personable. They stated
that they were part of a "special ops" paranormal investigation group
of 16 Rangers on the Navajo Reservation. They said they did not
advertise! Well, I rode up on my atv backed up by two Mormon elders
that had a two radio and binoculars trained on my back. I stopped some
ways out and turned on the HD video on my Nikon so I could
surreptitiously tape the interview. It was fascinating!

I started the interview complaining about cattle and grazing since we
have a large grazing permit...the Lt chuckled and said "we both know
we are not here about grazing and cattle" He then told me about his
"Special Ops" unit...they investigate Skinwalkers, witchcraft,
paranormal, archeology site/theft, and everything in between. They
have Gen 4 night equipment, AR15's and the list goes on...

I have most of the interview on tape - 29 minutes -

On an interesting side note - the next evening we had more Skinwalkers
visit our home than I care to remember - but I do not think it was
related.

The elders and I went out Tuesday and searched the whole site - they
took along four sealed Books of Mormon and planted them at the highest
points around the butte and renamed the butte Zion Butte!

The most interesting part is not included in this essay - suffice it
to say I saw the being near the horses...and shot it...you know
me...shoot first ask ? later....

Bottom line - photos / sighting / investigation? and you know I am not
a nut job...so ?

Well Worth the Time (and price!)
Chet Dembeck is a prolific Kindle author and publisher whose titles are well researched and written by an author who generally avoids hyperbole and agenda spin. This title is no exception. It is a worthy addition to the genre with some interesting angles on familiar topics, as well as some new information that I haven't seen elsewhere. I recommend this title and suggest you do an author search and explore Mr. Dembeck's other works. Well done, Chet!

One suggestion though - you REALLY need someone to do some final proofreading for you! The grammatical issues are not egregious (as is the case with most self-published titles), but an objective eye will eliminate those last few that always seem to slip through. (Not trying to self-promote, but let me know if you would like some help)

I highly recommend this author regardless of the price point.

Needs much more depth.
Fascinated by the topic, I devoured this book in less than two hours, but it was quite unsatisfying. Mr. Twichell deserves credit for floating his ideas out there, but the book reads like a high schooler's essay drawn from only a handful of Internet sources. There's no magic behind the curtain, only a feeling of emptiness. The book suffers from too much unsubstantiated speculation, too many irrelevent personal asides about family, and not enough first-hand research and investigation. The author begins by asking the right questions, but unfortunately never successfully or substantively draws us closer to a single answer. If you're looking for substance and a scholarly approach, seek out the masters, Erich Von Daniken and Zecharia Sitchin.

Open mind required
The name of this book is very deceiving. In the first chapter the author recounts the stories of Ezekiel wheel and the Exodus from the bible and how they could have been UFO's. Then for the next several chapters the author tells his own stories of his paranormal experiences. Mostly ghosts, OBE's & NDE's. Although these stories were very interesting and I enjoyed them, that is not why I bought the book. The author however makes up for things near the end of the book, that is when things start to get interesting, very interesting. He talks about little known facts regarding the shroud of Turin and isolated people who will believe that anyone is god. He mentions the missing books of the bible and from the quotes he has listed it is easy to see why. This book was very easy to read and very hard to put down. I really enjoyed it, however I must warn you not to read this book if you don't have an open mind.

Make the Connection

Twichell makes the connection between what you think you know about the Bible, UFO's, and Jesus' life and times and what you were always told was so, much more interesting and a lot more exciting!He also adds his own poignant encounter(s) with the unexplained for more than good reason.Twichell's explorations and investigations into the UFO enigma and biblical scholarship will undoubtedly urge any thinking reader to re-examine their own beliefs - and with good reason! Enjoyable, but...
I listened to this book while laying ceramic tile and I really enjoyed it, he makes a very convincing case concerning J.F.K. The problem is I know little, I was not a eyewitness of the assassination and I don't have access to the sources or the "facts". But if the "facts" he presents are indeed just that, facts... well, then the J.F.K conspiracy theory has merit.

THIS BOOK IS AS IMPORTANT AS '1984' & 'IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE'
Mr. Belzer uses a very effective blend of incisive analysis, entertaining prose, and his own wit to write an incredibly powerful book!All concerned American citizen (and a Federal employee who's seen the usual government lies) I would say this book should be required reading for every high school civics class.I'm sure 30 years ago my civics teacher would have required us to read Mr. Belzer's book!

You've Got to Love the Title
You've got to love the title of this book! It certainly grabbed my attention. Lights in the Sky & Little Green Men (LSLGM) is a look at the UFO phenomenon from both a rational and Christian perspective. This book is co-written by three men: Dr. Hugh Ross, an astronomer and founder of Reasons to Believe (RTB); Ken Samples, a philosopher-theologian; and Dr. Mark Clark, a political science professor. Each man brings a unique perspective to the UFO topic as a Christian apologist.

LSLGM gives a good survey of the history of UFO's, including: types of UFO's and close encounters, government cover-ups, the probabilities of extraterrestrial life and visitors, nature vs. super-nature, and UFO cults and devotees. UFO sightings are not rare. In fact, it is estimated that during the 1970's approximately 100 UFO sightings occurred nightly worldwide! About 1% of these sightings have no known natural explanation and have often been reported by credible witnesses. Many scientists and skeptics take the position that all UFO sightings have natural or human explanations, while others are convinced of the reality of visits by extraterrestrials in real spacecraft. LSLGM proposes a third alternative, the inter-dimensional hypothesis.

In summary, LSLGM concludes:

* government cover-ups have occurred - they may have involved hiding and lying about military secrets, but not about parts of spaceships or alien bodies
* probability of extraterrestrial life - very low, if not improbable, due to required fine-tuning for life anywhere and lack of sufficient time/capability of evolution to even originate life
* probability of extraterrestrial visitors - the laws of physics rule this out
residual UFO's (RUFO) - not all UFO sightings have a natural explanation (~1%), appear to be real, and often have an occult or spiritual context
* real effects of UFO's - some UFO's have physical impact on the environment or psychological effects on those experiencing close encounters
* transcendent reality - modern science gives reason to believe that there is a transcendent reality beyond our universe based on general relativity and the creation of space, matter, energy, and time in the Big Bang

LSLGM claims that while most UFO's are really explainable, there is a small residual (RUFO) that is not readily explainable. It then puts this all in the context of a biblical worldview, which includes a transcendent Creator and his intelligent creations, both physical and non-physical. Hence, it proposes that RUFO's have causes of a supernatural nature -- manifestations caused by angels or demons.

LSLGM also includes 3 interesting appendices covering the topics of: the fine-tuning for life on Earth, the probabilities for life on Earth, and the fine-tuning for life in the universe (the anthropic principle). There are also extensive references throughout the book and are grouped together in a chapter by chapter summary at the end of the book.

I highly recommend this book for all who are interested in the topic of UFO's. It gives a perspective not often seen -- a rational, Christian view. I also recommend the RTB website ([...]) as a great source of information on integrating Christian truth claims with the natural world. RTB is a science-faith think-tank whose goal is to harmonize the discoveries of science with the words of the Bible.

Interesting
The information is compelling and intersting. The language is a little technical and deep for me (fine arts major) however. It is more suited for scientists, engineers, etc. My father liked the book (nuclear engineer) and my brother did too (mechanical engineer).

Reasons to believe?
"Lights in the Sky and Little Green Men" is a very curious book. Essentially, it's an attempt to put forward an irrational message as rationally as possible. One of the authors is the astronomer Hugh Ross. However, he is also a leading evangelical Christian and "old earth creationist". His ministry is called Reasons to Believe (RTB). This group often attempts to use main-stream science to argue for what is actually a fundamentalist form of Christianity. In this book, Ross and his co-authors argue that UFOs are real, supernatural and demonic. They are, simply put, minions of the Devil himself. However, this fringe message is put forward is such a dispassionate, scientific-sounding and seemingly rational manner, that the book looks like an open-minded or even sceptical inquiry into the matter.

I must admit that the book is quite smart!

My guess is that "Lights in the Sky" isn't directed at Christians, but rather seeks to address a more general audience. In the United States, a substantial part of the population believes that UFOs are real, and many are ready to consider that they are extraterrestrial space craft. RTB presumably want to evangelize such people, or at the very least to turn them away from the New Religious Movements that exploit popular belief in UFOs. I'm sure the book fulfills its particular mission admirably. It contains several chapters of general information on the UFO phenomenon, including alien abductions, plus discussions of various theories concerning their origins. Are they space aliens, natural phenomena, a government cover-up, or what? There are sections on the most well-known UFO "cults", and two chapters on UFOs and the Bible. Keeping with the broad target audience, the first Bible quotation doesn't show up until page 111! Finally, the authors show their true colors, proposing what they call "The Interdimensional Hypothesis" or IDH. Which means...? Yes, that UFOs are Satanic.

I'm less sure whether the book will convince people who already belong to the actual UFO subculture. One of Ross' co-authors, Mark Clark, argues against conspiracy theories. But who exactly is Mark Clark? It turns out that he works for a major defence company as an advisor on strategic nuclear weapons. He is also a member of a rather exclusive pro-establishment think-tank, the "West Coast Straussian" Claremont Institute! In other words, he's one of "them" according to conspiracy thinking. Good luck, Mark, you gonna need it. Calling harmless groups such as Unarius or the Aetherius Society "cults" might also rub the UFO subculture the wrong way.

Personally, I'm most intrigued by the way "Lights in the Sky" argues against one form of superstition in the name of another. The book's arguments against the extraterrestrial hypothesis are true (or probably true - I haven't checked all the details about planet formation, etc). The book admits that the number of truly unexplained UFO cases, known as RUFOs, is very small, perhaps only one percent of the total. Further, it points out that people who see UFOs are often involved in the occult or New Age groups, that UFOs seem to adapt to the preconceptions of the observers, that they mimic science fiction technology, etc. Surely, somebody with a sober mindset would draw the conclusion that this points to UFOs being illusory! And yet, the authors draw the very opposite conclusion: UFO's are supernatural entities from the spirit world. Since RTB are creationists, the book also attacks the Darwinian theory of evolution and contains an extensive appendix on the so-called anthropic principle.

"Lights in the Sky and Little Green Men" sheds no light on the problem, and contains little to believe in. But as an exercise in fine-tuned propaganda, it's nevertheless an interesting read.

Examinations of UFO reports
First they discuss the government Blue Book project which showed that 95-99% of sightings could be explained by natural sources leaving 1-5% as unexplained.Then they go through the physical properities of planets and galaxies that are required for life and deduce that there is a chance of 1e-200 that any other planet in the galaxy could support life.Then they go through the problems of deep space travel such as lifetimes of the beings and cosmic rays damaging them.This leaves special relativity which shows that there are several space and time dimensions that humans do not occupy.The visitors could occupy these.Then they go over the history of human contact with these creatures and find that the creatures always tell scientific falsehoods and cause physical and mental harm to the humans.The conclusion is that these creatures are not to be trusted and you would be well off avoiding them.

Good idea on UFO; weird on Spirits
I agree that the UFO reports are hoaxes or natural events that seem like they may be from another world but can easily be explained to someone who is confused.However, now the authors enter the world of mythology/religion as an answer to some of the reports, especially contact with beings from another world.Let's get a grip, both the UFO (by those believers) and "spirit" (by the myth/religion believers) answers that are out there are both FALSE!Read a little in science and take a deep breath, as well as putting aside your mythology/religious cult bibles, and you may overcome your fantasies. ... Non-raving lunatics
This book is a compilation of articles from Skeptical Inquirer, the fascinating magazine of CSICOP. Skeptical Inquirer's focus wavers between quack cures, telepathy and UFOs depending upon what has captured the fickle attention of the woo-woo crowd. In the early '90s,when this collection came out, Roswell was at the forefront.
Millions of people watched on TV a supposed autopsy of a Roswell alien. The funniest article in "The UFO Invasion" (and most of them are pretty funny) is surgeon Joseph Bauer's assessment of the autopsy, which, if it wasn't a hoax, was the most incompetent in history.
"UFO Invasion" also samples crop circles, which have dropped out of fashion, and alien abductions, which are no laughing matter.
Psychologist Robert Baker provides an excellent overview that explains why the "therapists" who help their victims recover these memories are causing serious, probably permanent, damage to their clients.
Most of the authors take the position that people who believe in UFOs or that they were abducted by aliens are not crazy. I don't buy it. Just because they are not actually raving doesn't mean they are displaying normal mental functions.
People who seriously believe they were passed through solid walls and sexually assaulted by outer space creatures must be suspected, at the very least, of being in a dissociative state. If you ever go on trial, hope none of them is on the jury.

A disappointing read
I did not like this book.Most of the cases are well documented elsewhere and nothing of interest was added.The premise that you can "think" the UFO's into showing themselves is silly.If your looking for a serious book on the UFO phenomena look elsewhere.

An excellent, level-headed look at the UFO phenomenon
THE UFO INVASION is a terrific book for anyone seeking to get a good idea of what the real explanations behind everything from alien abductions to the Roswell Incident to crop circles could be.

The book is laid out in cleanly divided sections--"The UFO Enigma," "The Crash at Roswell," "Roswell and the Alien Autopsy," Other UFO Cases," "Alien Abductions," "Crop Circles," and Extraterrestrial Intelligence," and within every section are a number of relevant articles from the pages of the SKEPTICAL INQUIRER.

The book never asks its readers to take its word on anything, or to make leaps of faith in reasoning; instead, it lays out its cases clearly and with evidence, citing sources as it goes.It's a smart book, but it's also very readable, very quirky, and engaging.

I found the sections on Roswell and alien abductions to be particularly interesting, covering a wide range of the aspects of these fascinating stories.I read the alien abduction section right after reading Whitley Strieber's COMMUNION, and found it to be incredibly helpful in making psychological sense of Strieber's otherworldly tales.

For a Holy Skeptical Trinity of UFOlogy, I recommend reading this book along with Karl Pflock's ROSWELL: INCONVENIENT FACTS AND THE WILL TO BELIEVE, and Curtis Peebles' WATCH THE SKIES: A CHRONICLE OF THE FLYING SAUCER MYTH.I can scarcely imagine someone reading all three of these books and then still believing that extraterrestrial aliens have been covertly visiting us.I kind of wish that were the case, but I just don't see the evidence for it all.Some of the evidence that they haven't been, on the other hand, is right here, in THE UFO INVASION.

Misleading Cover=Argument against UFO's.
With every subject, it is beneficial to read both sides of an issue.The 3 authors who wrote this book appear to have completed a lot of research, and fill the chapters with many references AGAINST the belief of UFO's.

Included are questions of the Roswell crash, top-secret papers that some have said NSA won't release, evidence of crop circles, alien abductions and extraterrestrial intelligence.

With each subject, the authors have first explained what current literature indicates, then spends time explaining why they believe these are all false beliefs.There are many illustrations, notes and references throughout the book, giving the reader an excellent resourse of reading "the other side" of the story of UFO's.This book could be an excellent resourse if writing a paper for college, or interested in studying why some do not believe the current literature. It does give one a lot to think about.

I gave it a 4 not because I believe everything that is said; rather, I believe the authors did a fine job of research and citing hundreds of references.

A refutation of UFOs
For any debate, an informed audience must listen to both sides and make a decision based on the information given or acknowledge that we will never know.For each side of the debate, we have to examine the evidence and support to decide if what we are reading is true.This is especially true for the argument for or against the existence of UFOs.This is an emotional argument for some, and this book purports to be the rational approach.

That being said, I thought this book would be an argument for belief in UFOs, alien abductions, and government cover-ups.Admittedly, I based this on the cover of the book.As I read, I realized that the cover was probably not chosen by the authors as the authors were against the belief.So was I reading the rationalists' argument?

This is where I had trouble with the book.I found the argument to be based on an "ad hominem" fallacy.Rather than attack the argument, the book tends to attack the organizations, scholars, and believers of exterrestrial phenomena.

This is not filled with bad information.I found the insight into the organizations and believers to be interesting, but this book, by no means, establishes a solid stance against other-worldly happenings. ... Read more

as a fan of the show since first watching it in 1973 I can say this book should be called "the incomplete book of Gerry Anderson's UFO" because it boggle's the mind that the incredible picture's in this publication is in black and white when the show is in color! I would have paid an extra couple of dollar's for that privlage come on guys get a clue!

Great book but...
This book is a wonderful resource and a great addition to the books that Chris Bentley has already written about Gerry Anderson's various shows.It is chock full of rare photographs and information.There is also a great section about the marketing and merchandising of the show which contains a great deal of information that is not readily available.I do have two reservations about the book though.

First, the contents of the book are purely in black and white, unlike Bentley's books about Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlett.At least I was hoping for a color section in the middle.Economics aside, a color TV show deserves some color photographs.

Second, there is little concerning the effects of UFO, or the contributions of Derek Meddings and his crew of effects experts.The subject matter is covered and may well be all that the average fan of the show needs to know without getting too technical.

On the plus side, there's a great deal of information about the actors of the show, plus information about the individual episodes themselves.

All in all, a great resource and I hope that more books are forthcoming regarding other Anderson programs. ... Read more

misunderstood concepts
This book and its preceeding companion Watchers 1 are greatly misinterpreted. They tell a fine story of Astral travel (that is sub-spirit release) and subsequent travel to other planes of existence using heightened frequencies. Well worth reading.

Nothing as strange as reality
Having read this fourth volume about the Andreasson Affair I can't wait to get hold of book five.The story, as previously, is so incredible, and getting more so as each book is written, that it just has to be true.It works on so many levels - you can read as a story of fiction (if you like), you can read as an extensive piece of research, you can read it as a prediction for the future - something that we will all take for granted, in years to come.It stretches the mind to incredible lengths, rating alongside the complexity of physicists trying to fathom the origins of the universe through the Big Bang theories.Its not that heavy - just enjoy

Mind Boggling
This book is about a hypnotist patient's description of being abducted by alien entities through out her whole life, the way they look, what they want and a fantastic story of what they could be. The description of the aliens was fantastic the gray aliens beings being the lower in the rank of the aliens and the tall Nordic type being next, then the light beings, then her visitation with The One. The book also describes a connection with UFO and the after life connection, Biblical connections like the Enoch story very similar to the ufo stories. This book describes the theory that ufos might originate in a universe coexisting in the same space as our own reality. Fascinating abduction theories and theorys in general. Awesome book a must read.
