2-0 out of 5 stars Not as expected.
I found this book informative rather than practical as implemented by publisher to be a working tool primarily for desingers. People with basic knowlege of HVAC might enjoy reading this book to get some general but not in-depth engineering knowlege of HVAC systems, but there is not much for designers who need analytical information and knowledge of calculation procedures.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointment
This book is aimed at the engineering design professional but I found it to be a major disapointment. There are a number of good texts available on this subject but this one, like so many of Roger Haines' other books, is a superficial overview with little if any practical information.

3-0 out of 5 stars HVAC Systems Design Handbook Review
As a newcomer to the HVAC industry I found the book to very informative...it was presented in such a way, however, that makes it very hard to read.SMACNA puts out a few manuals that are less "dry"and a lot easier to read.I would recommend that anyone who is interestedin this publication to have some general knowledge of the HVAC industry inorder to make understanding this book easier. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not hands-on oriented, better suited for classroom.
I am a maintenance mechanic. This book reads like a dry classroom textbook. I specifically was looking for practical solutions for motor lubrication insight, such as how many pumps of grease per inch of motor shaft diameter, etc. Instead I only found the boring lubrication schedules and warnings about over lubricating. Also, we have dirty HVAC Heat Wheels and I wanted to know how to clean them. They are not even mentioned in the book! This book is of little use to me as a hands-on handbook. At a much lower price I would have given it 3 stars, but at this price it deserves only 2 stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars Brief comments in the book!
Quickly what is to be said about that book is that it is mainly addressed to people with some experience in the field and not to newcomers.well structured deals in good detail with all aspects of organizing your HVACsystems operation and maintenace. Gives good guidelines for people that arenot sure if they want to run the equipment themselfs or outsource theoperation. It helped me a lot deciding to outsource the operation of oursteam plant.I would generally recommend it as a good reference for theevereday problems that HVAC equipment runs into and for the organization ofyour maintenace of your equipment. It could though deal in greater depthwith the aspects of HVAC equipment design and installation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have
When I took the exam in 2008, this was one of two books that I had on my desk with me for the majority of my references. When I went to turn my test in, I noticed people from all discipines also had this book on their desks. This book is great because it goes over almost every type of problem you'll have on the afternoon exam.If you go through these solutions and figure out how they came to the solution, you'll be thoroughly prepared for the afternoon exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only 66 pages???

Only 66 pages???

I really expect a book like this
to have minimum of 250+ pages.

Preferably 500+ pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars PE Review Book
This was an excellent study guide for the PE exam. I highly recommend using this exam booklet to find out where you deficiencies are.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good choice to boost confidence just before exam
A great way to prepare for the actual exam especially for HVAC depth. Lindeburg's MERM is very light on HVAC topics but this six-minute book fills that void. Demonstrates good practice of using the ASHRAE Handbooks as well. There is also a decent covergae of qualitative questions as well. This is great since the real exam does contains some qualitative problems. A little bit more difficult than the real exam but it is well worth it. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the other ones
Maybe because I've been involved with HVAC, this book was a much better study tool than the other two '6 minute solutions' books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Code Check HVAC
I have several of the Code Check Flip Books. All are excellent and this one proves to be the same - note they can never be all-inclusive but they pack so much into a small and well organised/illustratedunique form. You probably won't notice the odd items not included unless you actually have the code and want to know something that no Code Enforcement Officer will ever care about.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book was tampered with
I dont know if the seller does any QA/QC on the books that they sell but the booked i recieved was tampered w/. THe book was "resplined" and altered to cover up the obvious that a few chapters were taken out of the book. Seller did send a replacement, but the damage was already done. Dont know if ill do business w/ these guys again.Just a quick note when shipping books they should be shipped in a more than just a envelope. My book came in bent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth having
Good reference. Although local code may have more requirements, this little reference provides a lot of important information and I found it very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book
Easy to use, very practical stuff. Gets right to the heart of the matter. I am a professional and use the Code Check books often.

1-0 out of 5 stars "WARNING, BEWARE"
I bought three books at the same time, recieved two within seven days of the order. The third has yet to come. Contacted the vendor and he stated that it must be lost in the mail and offered to re-ship or re-fund, I wanted to re-ship because I needed this book for my work. Waited a couple of weeks and sent an e-mail asking when the book had been re-shipped, got and e-mail back but didn't state the date it was shipped but said if I didn't recieve it in three days they would give me a refund. Well have not gotten the book after 40 days. Not sure if I will get a refund like they state but if you are looking for a quick and no hasel transaction don't look here. ... Read more
