Links ICER Biostatistics Unit The ICER Biostatistics Unit is on the forefront of statistical methodology for health services research. Our primary role is to work with ICER investigators throughout the entire research process, from project inception to manuscript publication. We have implemented a variety of standardized data collection and data management procedures to enhance overall project quality. We continually strive to develop and utilize innovative information technologies to improve data quality and overall project efficiency. We also perform top-quality statistical analyses and collaborate with ICER investigators on manuscript preparation. Additionally, ICER Ph.D. statisticians maintain active research portfolios in several areas of statistical methodology, including robust regression techniques and methods for longitudinal and incomplete data. Home The MEP biostatistics group performs statistical research, teaching, and consultation on the design, analysis, and reporting of clinical and epidemiological research. Since late 1998 the biostatistics group, lead by Professors Yudi Pawitan and Juni Palmgren, has grown from no full-time statisticians to a current staff of 15 (2 professors, 5 PhD, 4 MSc, and 4 statistics doctoral students). Under the same period, MEP has expanded from 40 to 130 staff and continues to grow rapidly. The department maintains close ties with the Department of Mathematical Statistics at Stockholm University and the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health, providing strong opportunites for collaborative research and further education of our staff. The biostatistics group maintains an active research effort, especially in the area of statistical genetics (the Swedish Twin Registry is hosted by MEP) and epidemiologic modelling.

Aims are the optimal and efficient use and development of biostatistical procedures for the experimental and the clinical cancer research given the unit's mission to contribute by its expertise to the understanding, the prevention and the treatment of cancer. The approach is strongly interdisciplinary, combining biostatistical consulting, cooperation in research projects in collaboration with experimental units of the cancer center, and selfdirected methodological statistical research. Research areas are optimal experimental design, mathematical and statistical model building for mechanisms of carcinogenesis and the development of new methods of data analysis, data presentation and quality assurance.

The computing side of the Department is responsible for network, file serving and image processing services.The network consists of over 2000 ethernet nodes, and covers both the Denmark Hill and Bethlem campus. A wide variety of software (Word, SPSS etc) is installed and used by PC clients. For image processing, the Department runs several SUN systems. The department has one public teaching room of 10 PCs (Room S212), with operational responsibility for another 50 public computers distributed around the campus, including a public access areaon the 3rd floor of the Library.
