5-0 out of 5 stars A new paradigm of medicine
Dr. Lawlis works out of the PNP Center outside of Dallas. There he and his colleagues put into action the techniques described in this book. His results are little short of miraculous. The book sets forth, in a clear scientific way, evidence that methods of treatment that are thousands of years old are in fact very powerful treatment tools today.Dr. Lawlis holds that the most powerful way to treat those who are suffering is not to reach for more drugs, but to treat the whole person; body, mind, heart and spirit. In particular, the section on Rituals lays out the power rituals-like those done by shaman for the last few thousand years-have to change the lives of those suffering today.A very fascinating book about a method of treatment too long ignored by Western medicine.

This book reads more like a hodgepodge of studies done. Boring and not very informative. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding who you were meant to be
Reclaiming Your Real Self... gives the reader a thorough understanding of the link between psychological concepts and spiritual practices that impact our lives. Dr. Johnson demonstrates a profound grasp of both psychological and spiritual theories which he fully explores, thus providing readers with a way to understand how linking these two can benefit their lives. In truth, the reader will find him/herself as well as friends and loved ones in these pages. Many "aha moments" occur as we begin to understand how we got to this point in our lives. Anecdotes and examples of real people in real situations make Dr. Johnson's points clear. The later chapters in the book especially provide readers insight into who we can be, might be, by understanding how past events in our lives influence our present behavior. Reclaiming Your Real Self can be a life-changing book for anyone willing to listen to its truths.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great comprehensive perspective on being a person
Dr. Johnson does a fabulous job communicating insight and wisdom about our psychological make-up, and how we can access parts of ourselves to promote further growth and health. It is readable and thought provoking for mental health professionals like myself and anyone else that is interested in life enhancement and maximizing their potential as a person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book For a Lifetime!
My Book Club read and spoke at length of the areas we found most profound and relevant to our lives over the years. The uniqueness of Dr. Johnson'smeaning of spirituality is a universal expression that does not exclude anyone.Because of the many pathways to discovering our real selves we were reminded, throughout the book, of the importance of our real selves which then enabled us in our discussion to speak honestly of our own personal experiences. Parts of the book are better appreciated by readers in different cycles of life. Because of our age- most are over 55 years- we appreciated the whole book because of our life time of experiences. We felt a strong affirmation that many of our own choices over time were good ones. The book reinforces that no matter one's age we canstill think and act on positive choices that continue to add meaning and purpose to our lives. We highly encourage people to read Reclaiming...no matter the time or age of your life...it can jump start your life's purpose and add greater joy to living. Janet from Osprey

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely must read!
Not long ago I bought Dr. Johnson's book and I am really impressed. It is easy to read, one doesn't have to be a professional.
Dr. Johnson's approach to solving psychological problems through spirituality is extremely interesting and unusual. Once you start reading the book, you can't stop because here and there you recognize your own problems and fears and understand how to deal with them.
I am sure that this book can help thousands of people to cope find right ways out of difficult situations, especially today, when people are really desperate, losing their jobs and homes, and badly need all the possible support they can get.
It is a great book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a must read for healers
From the point of view of an energy healer, this book is a must read. Dr. Nelson brings clear understanding to the confusion that often surrounds the types and causes of altered states of consciousness. For anyone who is at all interested in the nature of the human mind, this book is facinating, educational, and useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing the Split
This is a wonderful book by an experienced psychiatrist who knows what to ask when a patient says God is telling him what to do. According to Dr. Nelson, sometimes anti-psychotic medications are needed, other times moretranspersonal approaches work better. In his Foreword, Ken Wilber calls thebook "enormously impressive and profound" and laments that it isn'trequired reading for psychiatry residents. The book is divided in fourparts, dealing in turn with madness and consciousness, the brain, thespirit, and ending with the part on healing. The book is beautifullywritten with many insights into the non-rational world. My favorite is theexplanation of the futility of trying to invalidate a paranoiddelusion-logic's razor's edge is no match for the granite of necessity. Thebook is full of insights into all forms of altered states of consciousness, creativity, and genius, and how they compare to madness. It should foreverdebunk the myth that creativity and insanity inevitably go hand in hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent synthesis of Eastern philosophy and Western scien
At last, an enlightened psychiatrist describes a way to distinguish mystical experience and creative inspiration from regressive psychosis.Nelson integrates Eastern Philosophy and Western neuroscience into a uniqueand practically helpful synthesis that appeals to educated people who seeconsciousness as more than brain chemistry, but who also discern the flawsin R.D. Laing's and Thomas Szasz's now outdated views on psychoticexperience.Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Kundalini
I feel that this book and Kundalini, Evolution and Enlightenment edited by John White are two of the best, well-rounded books on Kundalini. This is due to their holistic input of theories, personal accounts and scientificresearch. Both books show the individual/social aspects. In addition, thisauthor does a wonderful job of making the distinction between regressiveillness and progressive transformation - a much needed view! These twobooks should always be available as invaluable resources for professionalsand/or those with a serious interest in the topic. ... Read more
