5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book

The Power of Being Different never leaves you bored. This book is filled with quotes, humor, and wonderful advice to get anyone up and moving and becoming all they can be.No room for procrastination here. Along with all the good advice, Carcini is obviously a spiritual person, writing a motivational book toward being your true self.
I believe that John Carcini should become a motivational speaker for I sense a gift for delivering wise advice to all.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Being Different
I ordered this book for a friend of mine, one who loves to read self help books to help move up in the world, to achieve greater success. When I first received this book, I peeked inside, and I had to keep reading.

This is the best self help book that I have ever read, thus far.It will inspire you to achieve higher goals and not settle for less than what you are.By believing in yourself, this book will teach you many things on how to achieve "a better you."

From showing you how your mind controls your body, this book will help you transform your life by forming better habits and how to avoid negativity in your daily life.It shows you time management and how to use your time more wisely and you will be able to achieve any and all goals you make for yourself.

This book is great for people seeking self motivation, business owners, and self employed entrepreneurs. It will also help others with weak personalities, scared to take steps toward a greater and more successful life.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Miracle of Life and Ability to Accomplish Great Things!
John Carinci is an excellent writer who knows how to keep a reader's interest.I am an avid reader of self-help books, have read many of the books John recommends, and have already learned many of the life lessons that Mr. Carinci presents in this book, but his writing style is refreshing and the examples and quotes he uses are inspirational.

I particularly enjoyed the author's point that the odds of our birth are like winning the lottery. The one in a million chances that an egg would be fertilized coupled with the likelihood that the development of the embryo into the miniature person born in this time and place that perpetuated our personhood is phenomenal. Those coupled with the fact that we survived exposure to disease and accidents and live in an age of modern medicine; opportunity, education, and freedom that promote our longevity and ability to have a meaningful life are not an accident. We are here for a reason!

The author does an exception job laying out how people who work hard and think positively employing the gifts they are born with and those that they develop should not be satisfied with their accomplishments.Rather, they should strive to make a positive impact on the world and leave behind a legacy that will impact humanity through the ages.He gave numerous examples of such people who ignored ridicule and persevered to accomplish and make our world one of technological advancement. He encourages us to be different, to dream, to act and never be satisfied with what is, but strive for new and better ways to live, work and play.
The author encourages us to make time for ourselves and extend our waking alert hours living healthily and purposefully.Example after examples are provided of people who were either not born with certain physical attributes or have lost them, but nevertheless have used their minds and ingenuity to achieve great things that impact the world as we know it.He believes that those who have passed on their gifts look down at us and challenge us to improve upon their contributions.

I recommend this book to people of all ages and backgrounds. It is uplifting and enlightening.I am glad I read it and you will be too.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing tool to help yourself in every facet of your life

John Paul Carinci is a Renaissance man - he is not only a successful business man, he is a poet, song writer, screenwriter, author of many works of fiction, and the author of one of the most profound and useful 'self-help' books I have ever read.
The Power of Being Different is amazing. In its simplicity, it will show you how to transport your life into one that is not only productive, but filled with exploring your potential in every facet of your life. Big words, but it works.
I have a dear friend who is a success in the investment market. One of his favorite sayings is 'Dare to be a Daniel, dare to stand alone.' I am sending him a copy of Carinci's book - he'll love it.
You see, you can eek out an existence by being just another head in a crowd. To get noticed, you have to stand out - to be different - and thereby having your ideas noticed, your path cleared.
Carinci dots his book with quotes from some of the greatest minds of our time - bits of information to chew and digest - His sound, thoughtful words will be those you will use and relate to.
I have 'dog-eared' many pages of The Power of Being Different so I can relay some great ideas/thoughts with you - it is something I do not normally do - dog-earing - but wanted to share with you - am looking at my copy and nearly every page is dog-eared. Not enough space to share everything I wanted to share!
The way you use your time each day can be a critical factor in your success. Your thoughts and how you handle yourself are part of your success. In other words, harness the power you have within you and you can literally move mountains to achieve your goals, personally and professionally.
Time management, sending positive thoughts, ideas to yourself are parts of the keys. How many of us wake up and dread going to work - knowing we'll get pounded in some form during the day, shrinking at the thought of having to endure another day of the same harrassment from the boss and/or co-workers in the dog eat dog daily grind we call work? I've been there done that - Carinci in simple easy to follow techniques help alter our approach to handling things making harsh situations bearable and even triumphant is brilliant.
My father was the blueprint of the American Dream. Son of an immigrant, he worked his way through college, overcoming hardships where some would have given up and taken lesser roads. Instead he persisted, and became an executive in the automotive industry - and he was sought out for not only his dedication for excellence and quality, but how he practiced what he preached. He cared not only for the product, but the people who produced the products. His techniques in business are still being practiced today. If my father was alive today, I can guarantee you he would give a copy of The Power of Being Different to each and every person under him, as well as family members. I think his dedication and caring to help and give of himself paved the way for successes of his family and people he touched. He and John Paul Carinci would have been great friends. Every page I read, I knew this was what my father embraced. And that is the highest compliment I can give this book.
Small suggestions, such as finding 15 minutes each day to start investing in yourself, writing down your dreams of success, having a mantra of sorts - a rallying 'cry' to focus what you want and to achieve - focusing in on what is truly important and zeroing in on how to attain it.
All this John Paul Carinci lays out in this book.
You are your best supporter, or worst enemy. Which will you choose? To self destruct, or rise to be the person you want to be? So easy, so amazingly presented, all you have to do is follow through. Follow through - that is another of my Dad's sayings - you can have great ideas, but unless you follow through with them, all they are, are great ideas. Not tangible success.
You may not become a Gates after reading this book, but if you follow the principles of this book, whether you are an executive in a company, or a blue collar worker in the fields, or a student, whatever, wherever you are, your success is in your hands. All you have to do is step out and be different - make a difference - and that gives a power you will find amazing.
I plan on sending copies of The Power of Being Different to many of my friends. I believe in the ideas of this book, and am working to make myself a better person by implementing the ideas Carinci lays out for us.

Product Description
This new edition of the original text reveals how Nathaniel Branden's landmark book broke the rules of conventional behavioral theory and promulgated his revolutionary ideas on the critical role that self-esteem plays in living a healthy, fulfilling life. The book offers an in-depth exploration of the need for self-esteem, the nature of that need, the conditions of fulfillment, and how self-esteem (or lack of it) affects our values, responses, and goals. Branden also debunks the misguided notion that self-esteem is a "feel-good phenomenon" and shows instead how self-esteem, rationality, perseverance, self-responsibility, and personal integrity are all intimately related. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent Brandon book
I highly recommend any Nathaniel Branden book. I think at this point I have read all of them (some twice). This one is a bit more philosophical than some of the later ones. It was his first book and sets the foundation for his life's work. Very important for those who want to better understand human psychology. His later works focus more on personal/self improvement with more examples of real people and with "steps" to follow. Not that this one isn't also personally useful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Branden's best work based on Objectivism philosophy
I have read all Branden's books and most, if not all, Ayn Rand's works. I recently completed my second reading of this book, and I believe that 40 years after its first publication this title remains outstanding in exposition and style comparing to most books on Objectivism philosophy and its applications in specific fields. (Two other outstanding works came to mind, though not in the same category, are "Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand" by L.P. and "Ayn Rand's Normative Ethics: The Virtuous Egoist" by Tara Smith.)

As a non-academic I consider this title an excellent self-help work, because it's written with unparalleled theoretical depth and intellectual clarity not seen in Branden's later works or majority of self-help type books on today's bookstore shelfs.

I found this book very helpful in gaining self-knowledge and understanding human psychology, so I highly recommend this book to everyone, particularly to those who have read Ayn Rand's ideas or Objectivism philosophy. BTW, Branden's other books are good too, but they are mostly elaborations on aspects of theoretical "super-structure" articulated in this title.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where it all started
A worked-over edition of his original 1969 classic, this is where Branden as self-help psychologist started. If you want to get in on the ground floor of self-esteem, understand what he means by self-esteem v. some of the fluff that has been spun out since his 1969 start, and see how sentence-completion work started, this is the book for you.

Note: As Braden developed, and found this career/life niche, despite different titles, there's not always a tremendous amount of difference between all of his books, especially if you jump in and buy four of five at once. Be selective at the start.

At the same time, note that the sentence completion work requires a bit of mental discipline. Those he berate that, in lower-ranking reviews, may deserve scrutiny of why they aren't in to that.

That said, as with any Branden book, this isnot a substitute for professional counseling. And, self-esteem work like this will not touch major endogenous depression, nor externally-driven things such as the aftereffects of PTSD. Unfortunately, Branden doesn't always make that clear.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent description of human behavior
This book explains psychology, starting from the most basic biological principles. It uses a cientific aproach of cause and effect to explain complex concepts such as emotions, anxieties and love. The explanations are usually easy to understand.

Everything on this book has an explanation coming from principles. You won't find a "this comes from instincts" kind of explanation.

Four stars for this one... I don't give five stars because I feel that the structure and order of the book could improve.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Psychology Of Self-Esteem
It took me many readings to fully comprehend the ideas and themes of this book. Since English is not my first language, and my first having nothing to do with Latin and Greek, the author is not to blame. Actually the book is very well written, is detailed and ideas follow logically. It is very hard to sound scientific and objective in a field notorious for subjectivity; nevertheless this is, in my opinion, as objective an analysis as one can get in the field. It may seem overly philosophical and difficult reading at first (definitely not Dr.Phil's style), but once you grasp the approach, it becomes a rewarding inner journey. The book's subject matter (Self-Esteem) is of enormous importance in individual psychology, and crucial for understanding the author's other works. A must read for all, highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This Book WILL Change My Life. Thank Goodness.
Reading this book is like hearing the proverbial angels singing with the new perspectives that the author provides. It is so well written and you get the feeling that the author truly understands you.It is extremely eye-opening, and it is also comforting to know that I'm not the only one with the feelings that he describes.

HIGHLY recommended if you feel that you're struggling with life and most often struggling with yourself. Cannot thank the author enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly brilliant piece of work by Dr Joseph Luciani
For the last 5 years I've jumped from one self help book to the next extracting nuggets of gold yet falling short of making that complete life change each book has promised. Although a lot of self help books give practical advice on how to change areas of your life they don't address the habitual destructive thoughts that are prone to return and sabotage the results that were made. I believe this is one reason why so many people's lives look like roller coaster rides. Unless you're aware of these habitual thought patterns and have the steps to address them they may return and slowly start to eat away at your progress. Thanks to this book I've been able to identify my problematic thoughts, take corrective action and improve areas of my life in a short amount of time. With each use of the well explained five practical steps I built up momentum and each improvement cycle became more rapid. I thank Dr Luciani for writing this truly wonderful life changing book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Defusing negative self-talk
This book uses what some refer to as cognitive therapy to defuse a person's negative self-talk. I found it interesting but wished that the author would have given more tips for how to do this earlier in the book. The first three quarters of the book is basically an analysis of how you think to detect the level of dysfunctional self-talk you might have. The tests were illuminating and overall the book was worth reading.

If you enjoyed this book be sure to check out the phenomenal Learned Optimism: How to Change Your Mind and Your Life. It has a broader explanation of cognitive therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is an amazing book if you are feeling down on your luck, or keep thinking pessimistically over things in life. Great motivation to change your life into the right direction.
Thanks Prof. Luciani!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource
This is very well written and organized book, written primarily for consumers, rather than professionals (who still will benefit, as I did). They have a knack for distilling things down to what is important to understand, as well as what to do.

Professionals and consumers alike will appreciate the Resource section in the Appendix. Many specific books and websites are recommended and nicely organized.
