They will be available at the door. Fourteen-year-old Pallavi Mahidhara recently appeared on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage as part of the National Symphony Orchestra's Beethoven Festival. Pallavi made her orchestral debut at age 10 at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. Stepping in for an injured soloist, at a week's notice she performed Mozart's Concerto No. 21 with the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has appeared with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Asturias National Orchestra in Spain. In March 2000, Pallavi was featured on "Piano Grand," a glittering celebration of the piano's 300th birthday produced by the Smithsonian Institution and hosted by Billy Joel. Pallavi is the national winner of the 2001 Baldwin competition sponsored by the Music Teachers' National Association (MTNA). In the 2001 Beethoven Piano Sonata Competition in Memphis, not only was she the youngest contestant in the competition's history to reach the semi-finals, she was awarded 2nd Prize, competing with pianists twice her age.

Extractions: Bard Center Evenings give trustees and friends of the College opportunities to meet distinguished experts during a series of thought-provoking panel discussions. These evenings are held at least three times a year and explore issues of intellectual, cultural, and social concern. Recent topics have included "The Promise, Practices of 'Alternative' or Complementary Medicine," "The Rise of the Image, the Fall of the Word," "Violent Behavior: Causes and Potential Remedies," "Grand Synthesis? The Rapprochement between Science and the Arts and Humanities," and "Foreign and Humanitarian Aid: Paradoxes and Perspectives." Among the musicians who have performed recently at Bard are pianists Alan Gampel and Joan Tower, in a two-piano lecture-recital featuring Tower's Stepping Stones, as well as works by Ravel, Debussy, and Stravinsky-composers whose work has influenced Tower's own. Other performances have included the world premieres of works by Richard Teitelbaum and Benjamin Boretz by the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra; the Da Capo Chamber Players' presentation of Peter Maxwell Davies' chamber opera Le jongleur de Notre Dame; violinist Sanford Allen, cellist Robert Martin, and harpsichordist Edward Brewer on an all-Bach program; and an evening of jazz with the Thurman Barker Quintet, featuring Grammy-nominated Sam Rivers on tenor sax and guitarist James Emery.
Artist Andrew Fernando ... - Sept. 09, 2002 Here and there FRENCH pianist turned conductor Philippe Entremont will conductthe Cadaquez Orchestra (a 81 in the master class conducted by blanca uribe. http://www.inq7.net/lif/2002/sep/09/text/lif_3-1-p.htm
Extractions: Opening with Barber's "Dover Beach," which he sang for the government of Hong Kong in 1995, Fernando let out a vocal artistry of the highest order. With a highly sensitive piano part of Ismail, Fernando proved that a contemporary art song could have a distinct place alongside Schubert and Strauss if sung intelligently and with ardent vocal care. Schubert's "Wohin (Where to?)" and Strauss' "Nacht (Night)" were examples of how a human voice can achieve the highest poetic permanence with an exemplary pianist. When he turned to Strauss' "Zueignung (Devotion)," it was like a virtual prayer, a dignified celebration limned with overpowering, if distilled, emotion.

As our country goes through a war, we need to take time now to listen and support one another; to look out for our friends, family and neighbors; to answer the questions our children might have; and to support our military troops and their families.
