Klaus Hofer Reports his career he was commissioned to prepare busts of Albert Einstein, George BernhardShaw, or the famous pianist and Bach specialist rosalyn tureck, just to http://www.echoworld.com/B0109/B0109KHofer.htm
Extractions: (Part Two) by Klaus Christian Hofer Remember Purtzel? It is a mystery indeed. This bronze head is very reluctant to reveal its secret. (See Echo Germanica August 2001) This intriguing British face, eternalized in bronze, is the enigma. On March 1, 1920 it spilled from the hull of the SS. Bohemian as she wrecked and sank off the coast of Nova Scotia. For the next 55 years, this bronze bust collected barnacles about 95 feet beneath the surface, while peacefully resting against a winch, until a young salvage diver brought it to the surface. That was in the summer of 1975. For the next 26 years Mr. Unknown served as a book-stop in the comfortable home of a friend and yet, this book-stop may be packing a story worth telling in a book itself. Is it the work of a famous artist? A reader who read "Head without a Story" in the August edition called Echo Germanica and suggested that it could be the work of Sir Jacob Epstein, a New York born painter and sculptor (1880-1959), who built his artistic career in London. In 1954 Epstein was knighted and became a world famous sculptor. During his career he was commissioned to prepare busts of Albert Einstein, George Bernhard Shaw, or the famous pianist and Bach specialist Rosalyn Tureck, just to mention a few. Although I consider it a remote chance that Epstein crafted the bust recovered from the Bohemian, it certainly would have been his style. See for yourself:

Extractions: Piano When JAVIER PERIANES (b.Nerva, Huelva, 1978) claimed victory at the 43rd International Piano Competition at Jaen, Spain in April 2001, one of the most prestigious and challenging contests of its kind in the world, he astonished the jury and the public alike for the depth and poetry of his magisterial performances, causing several critics to call him "the new Arrau". Indeed, in addition to the first prize, the jury, whose members included such distinguished musicians as Rosalyn Tureck, Dag Achatz, Guillermo Gonzalez Yukie Nagai and John Bell Young awarded him the Rosa Sabater prize for the best performance of a work of Spanish music (Albeniz's "El Polo) and for the best performance of the commissioned contemporary work. Mr. Perianes began his studies with Julia Hierro, Lucio Munoz and Maria Rambaldo. During this period he obtained top honors, as well as winning numerous prizes. He continued his studies at the Upper Conservatory in Seville with Professor Ana Guijarro, where he was awarded the End of Course Special Prize. He has taken part in a number of recitals organized by Juventudes Musicales, as well as the XV and XVI Ayonte International Festival of Music, where he made his debut together with the Festiva's Baroque Orchestra, In 1998 he took part in the Andalusian Circuit of Music, organized by the Junta (Regional Council) of Andalusia. In addition, he has performed with the Valles Symphony Orchestra at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, in Barcelona, with the Seville Royal Symphony Orchestra at the Teatro de La Maestranza, and also with the RTVE Symphony Orchesta at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid.

Extractions: which is due to be published later this year. Over the years, Dr. Manfred Clynes has been kind enough to send me copies of several tapes of his performances as a pianist, recorded during some of his now very infrequent public appearances. Most outstanding among these recordings is his deeply moving interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations, a towering masterpiece of the keyboard literature. Indeed, it was the expressive range and transcendent beauty of Clynes' music-making, more than any of his somewhat idiosyncratic scientific writings, that gave me confidence in his work, without necessarily removing all my skepticism. Research on music generally tends to be limited by the researcher's level of musical feeling and thought. For Clynes, however, there is no such limit. After hearing a few samples of his playing, I knew that he had the ability of penetrating to the profoundest musical truths. I would like to present a few glimpses of Clynes' extraordinary art in the form of graphic analyses of a few excerpts from his performance of the Goldberg Variations. This performance was recorded live in a concert given in Sydney on September 12, 1978, and was issued on cassette tape by the American Sentic Association.
