The next year, that show expanded to a full hour and ran every other week under the title Music '60. For the l960-6l season, the CBC returned the show to its original format of a weekly half-hour. The production also returned to a more modest scale that stressed the music of the band and its members in smaller combos, and of featured vocalist Sylvia Murphy. Kane also introduced guest performers, such as singers Steve Lawrence and Andy Williams, who appeared on the first two shows of the season. The singers and musicians played to a Toronto studio audience. The show was written by Bernie Rothman, and produced by Bill Davis, though the first two programs in the series were produced by Stan Harris, because Davis was ill. Extractions: GVCA History 1972 2000 In 1962 the Farmers Investment Company sold 2,900 acres of its money-losing cotton growing land to the Green Valley Development Company for the building of a retirement community. Green Valley grew apace and by 1970, had organized a Performing Arts Committee to coordinate local artistic events including classical music concerts given by students from the University of Arizona School of Music. It was in 1970, at one of these concerts, that Ozan Marsh, Pianist in Residence at the University, proposed to Bob Marr, one of the Performing Arts Committee members, that a Green Valley Concert Association be formed as a chapter of the non-profit Southwest Pianists Foundation of which Marsh was the founder and guiding light. The first meetings of the group were held in 1972, according to Bee Burtis, a long-time leader of the yet-to-be Green Valley Concert Association. It was spearheaded by Leo Esral and included his wife Carmen, Robert Wills, Lola Bevington, Emerson Todd, Ralph Clee, Alma Bonnet, Mable Betzer and Bill Vinton. This group brought concerts to Green Valley under the auspices of, and as a "Chapter" of, the Southwest Pianists Foundation. They adopted Bylaws on April 4, 1974, formalizing the name Green Valley Concert Association and the relationship to the Southwest Pianists Foundation. The following January, according to Burtis, the Board was reorganized to include new members Bob Slater (President), Bob Marr and Bee Burtis, all of whom would hold leadership roles in GVCA for years to come. Burtis and Marr would also serve lengthy terms on the Board of the Pianists Foundation of America.
