Extractions: Purrfectly Classical Has Peabody Written All Over It Noel Lester's newest CD , "Purrfectly Classical" (Centaur 2511) is a collection of piano solos, piano duets, songs, and vocal duets, all inspired by or about cats. Its connections to Peabody are numerous. Noel received his degrees at Peabody, the CD was recorded and edited at Peabody (by Doug Jameson), he collaborated with two Peabody faculty members, soprano Deidra Palmour and pianist Nancy Roldan, and one of the selections was supplied by a former Peabody faculty member, Morris Cotel. The CD includes works by Copland, Scarlatti, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Hovhaness, Satie, Chopin, and many others, as well as short poems about cats. Appropriately enough, one of the selections, "Piano Four Paws," was written by Morris Cotel's cat and was transcribed by the composer. In addition to Lester, Palmour, and Roldan, baritone Edward Crafts is also featured on the CD. The cover art is by Susan Herbert, the well known British artist who is noted for her whimsical cat paintings. Copies may be obtained from Noel Lester
