Extractions: Paul Quinn College was founded by a small group of African Methodist Episcopal circuit riding preachers in Austin, Texas, April 4, 1872. The College was opened by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the leadership of Bishop J. M. Brown. Founders were A.M.E. ministers: Bishop R. H. Cain, The Revs. J. H. Armstrong, W. R. Carson, J. V. Goins, Abraham Grant, William Leake and Henry Wilhite. In 1877, the College was moved to Waco, Texas, and was established as a modest one building trade school at Eighth and Mary Streets, where the Missouri Kansas Texas Railway Station now stands. Here, newly freed slaves were taught the skills of blacksmithing, carpentry, and tanning and saddle work inside the walls of the modest institution. To construct the first building, a "Ten Cents a Brick" campaign was launched throughout the A.M.E. congregations. Thus, pennies of desperately poor people built the first solid monument to their dreams. In May 1881, Paul Quinn College was chartered by the State of Texas. The name of the College was changed to Paul Quinn College, in commemoration of Bishop William Paul Quinn, an A.M.E. missionary, who served as the representative of the western states for almost thirty years. In 1990, the Board of Trustees voted to relocate Paul Quinn College to the former Bishop College campus in Dallas, Texas. The first semester in its new home began on September 20, 1990, with an enrollment of 1,020 students.

The Arts, Liberally He was a concert pianist from the age of 11, when rachel bemoans the difficulty ofcutting her class size down quinn Eli came to Bryn Mawr in 1993, right after http://www.brynmawr.edu/Alumnae/bulletin/nframe/arts.htm
Extractions: THE ARTS, LIBERALLY To find the office of The Arts Program in Goodhart Hall, you take a short flight of steps down into a small garden. There, tucked into the flank of this immense building with its soaring spires and buttresses is a wooden door, very much like the one in Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden . You open it and enter the spaces of the imagination. The Arts Program is a family of working artists. Each has a different voice, but in each voice is reflected the same respect for and delight in the students. Each has professional commitments outside of Bryn Mawr, but it's clear Bryn Mawr means the most to them each embraces the liberal arts environment as the liveliest arena for his or her work. Dance Director and Senior Lecturer Linda Caruso-Haviland holds the memory of what the arts were like at Bryn Mawr before the program was created in 1984. "The difference between 1979 and now is the difference between night and day," she says appreciatively. "After several faculty reviews, the administration made a wholehearted commitment and hired Jane Wilkinson to direct an integrated program. Until she arrived, we were all separate satellites, respected but not part of the larger liberal arts curriculum." Michael Isador, concert pianist and child prodigy, succeeded Wilkinson as director of the Arts Program in 1992 when she moved from the area. "Running this program has been a challenge with many exciting moments," Michael says. "There's a high degree of cooperation from the College." He pauses for an instant, smiles and continues, "within the limits the College has put on creative disciplines."
