Sein Cello-Konzert, "Fonogrammi", erstes Violinkonzert, "Threnos" - diese und andere Werke hinterließen bei mir Eindrücke, die ich mit Originalität, Erfindungskraft, Fantasie, Einfallsreichtum assoziieren konnte. Pendereckis - für Anne-Sophie Mutter komponiertes - Zweites Violinkonzert jedoch ruft nichts Vergleichbares wach. Die "Metamorphosen" wirken auf weiten Strecken wie ein Streifzug durch die - vor allem - langsamen Sätze der Violinliteratur des 20. Jahrhunderts. Metamorphosen: Wandlungen, Umgestaltungen, Ursprünglichkeit - Penderecki scheint auf der "Suche nach der verlorenen Zeit", stellt Fragezeichen ohne Fragen auf. Die auch von Anne-Sophie Mutter angesprochenen Elemente des Schmerzes, der Trauer, des Sarkasmus wirken nicht mehr originär, eher meisterhaft arrangiert, kenntnis- und reminiszenzenreich, absichtsvoll konstruiert. Es scheint in den letzten Jahrzehnten alles gesagt worden zu sein - man kann sich nur noch wiederholen. Vielleicht denke ich in zehn bis zwanzig Jahren anders. Anne-Sophie Mutter beackert diese Ideendeponie mit einer Hinwendung und Intensität, die einem jungfräulichen, fruchtbaren Boden würdig wäre.
