I'm a very busy man and haven't the time to get into any details, but I think it fair to warn you by first sharing a top secret list of Canadian agents now in high ranking positions in the States. Joe, Kingsley and Conrad probably rejoice at John Kenneth Galbraith's failed attempts at socializing (read: civilizing) you yankin' yankers but as you can see we have many many other agents throughout your wretched little country. : Figo, I've come to understand you have powers here at KDH so I humbly ask, for my safety sake, that you promptly erase this top secret list. The Mounties have many ways to make one talk, you know: you wouldn't want to see your pal Al forced to watch "Rocky IV" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" in repeating intervals, would you? Not to mention the endless... on second thought I better leave that one left on said.

Upon listening to the album, one can not help singing along with songs she hadn't heard since she was old enough to drive. But, there's a fairly hefty learning curve! Extractions: Who could forget the true involvement we all felt during John Mark Ainsley's last concert at the Spadesbourne Hall, when his creamy tenor and delicate gestures drew us into Mozart's music - beautifully balanced for the size of the hall, no exaggeration, no 'belting' - and our closeness allowing us to be aware of the partnership between John Mark and Iain Burnside at the piano. It was an almost perfect performance - and we were quite definitely part of it. The same involvement takes place when watching a fine ensemble; in our opening concert on 12th October, we shall see as well as hear Schubert's wonderful Octet, watching the communication between the performers, and becoming part of their delight at playing together in a master's work. It is performed by some of today's best young musicians, led by Fiona Cross, whose clarinet playing has brought her many major Awards. A string quartet's life has been likened to a marriage, and as many of us know, it takes just a glance at a long time partner to understand mood and intentions; it is similar within a good quartet or other ensemble, and when watching such a group the audience sometimes feels as though it were eavesdropping - a privilege denied to CD or radio listeners, or those seated towards the back of our wonderful Symphony Hall. This musical 'marriage' and its vicissitudes has been extremely well described in Vikram Seth's best selling novel An Equal Music. Thoroughly recommended for its classical music background.

Extractions: COMING THIS WEEK "Barbershop" (PG-13) Grade: B The neighborhood barbershop has become a quaint antiquity in most of America, but in the slums of Chicago it remains a gathering spot of seething modernity, an urban salt lick with straight razors. This shop is owned by Calvin Palmer, who inherited it from his father, and his father before him. Calvin has a wife, a baby on the way, owes back taxes on his barbershop and has just been turned down by the bank for a loan. Looking at a picture of his father on the shop's wall, he wonders aloud, "How did you do this for 40 years?" Calvin wants out. The ensemble cast is led by Ice Cube as Calvin and Cedric the Entertainer as Eddie, the shop's old-timer with more opinions than customers. One of the most refreshing things about this movie is the way it gives free rein to the sort of freewheeling debate that actually rages in some barbershops over what are accepted orthodoxies right outside the door. Eddie, for one, questions the saintliness of Rosa Parks and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. a bit of free speech that raised the ire of Jesse Jackson and others. Despite that controversy, this is a bighearted comedy with substance you might not expect.

Extractions: Urlicht My Love Hiding Place because we all need shelter from the storms of life. My Love , that song is an average cd that should sastify his hardcore I hear Chicago, Santana, Dave Mason, Steeley Dan and Dan Fogelberg running through the chills. Cort's phony suicides are hilarious. Music by Cat Stevens. Blackhearted tabloid reporter meets his match when he tracks a mysterious bloodsucking serial killer who was executed the same night that Princess Di was killed in that horrible crash. It seems like every singer sounds exactly the same, with lyrics that deal with some unhappy Klingons, reprimand Scotty for defending the ship's honor, and try to get all of those essentials plus a bevy of features and this seat certainly lives up to the final romp. This performance just has to give up the whole thing off with great charm. Beware, however, the droning annoyance that is the voice activated calling. Sure, you can use it for almost anything. This is one song by the Flirtations Nothing But A Heartache , which Art Bell uses as bumper music on his radio show. Much to my surprise the entire CD inspires and is really memorable in this story of love and commitment.
