Mito Chamber Orchestra Regular Concerts Autumn 2001 (English) Kussmaul appeared at MCO as a soloist along with the pianist Andreas Steieir. withone of the most exciting pianists of the younger generation, olli mustonen. http://www.arttowermito.or.jp/music/mco01aut.html
Extractions: The first reunion will take place at the 47th Regular Concert, with the violinist Rainer Kussmaul. In the autumn of 1998, Kussmaul appeared at MCO as a soloist along with the pianist Andreas Steieir. Their performance of Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings drew resounding applause. This time, he will parlay his brilliant career as the former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic as he sits in the concertmaster's chair throughout the program, leading the MCO. Another piece in the program that is being much talked about is Beethoven's Triple Concerto for Piano, Violin and Cello, which features two string soloists that MCO is proud of Takumi Kubota on the violin and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi on the cello together with one of the most exciting pianists of the younger generation, Olli Mustonen. These artists of remarkable talent, who have captured the attention of the world's music circles with their distinctly individual performances, will join forces with MCO to produce a thrilling moment. They will fulfill all your expectations.

Extractions: Art abounds all around us in Southern California. Consider, for instance, Ojai. It's much more than an enchanted Shangri-La, gallery-hopping getaway or hot-spring hot spot for Angelenos. The picturesque valleywhich provided the mythical Himalayan backdrop for the first film version of Lost Horizon is also the site of the renowned Ojai Festival. Since its inception in 1947, the annual gathering in this Ventura County arts colony has become one of the world's most important classical-music events, with a prominent focus on presentations of this era's music by world-class musicians. The 53rd edition of this notable conclave, held June 2-6, featured an impressive contingent of performers and composers from Finland. Finnish flair and innovation are generally well known and highly regarded in architecture, design and high-tech telecommunications. What's less widely appreciated in the U.S. is Finland's importance in contemporary classical music. In fact, this sparsely populated Nordic country, with only five million inhabitants, is one of the world's most prodigious producers of 20th Century art music. During a two-month visit to the country in 1995, I remember feeling overwhelmed by the depth of musical activity in most Finnish cities and towns. The small nation currently boasts 29 orchestras, hundreds of smaller ensembles, countless choirs, scores of summer music festivals and two prestigious and successful classical record labels, Finlandia and Ondine.

Extractions: Igor Stravinsky's connections to Los Angeles run far deeper than many music aficionados may realize. Although he wasn't a native Angeleno, during most of the last three decades of his long and prolific life, the Russian-born Stravinsky (1882-1971) was Los Angeles' most prestigious cultural homeboy and a local hero of the area's contemporary music scene. Stravinsky earned his reputation as one of the icons of Western culture primarily in prewar Paris, where his explosive 1913 ballet score for "Le Sacre du Printemps" ("The Rite of Spring") detonated the Big Bang of modern music. However, the works that Stravinsky created during his nearly 30 years in Los Angeles include some of the most significant compositions of his careerdue partially to a unique confluence of influences that the composer was exposed to here. Stravinsky's compositional output during his time in Los Angeles includes what arguably became his most important late-period work for full orchestra, the ballet score "Agon," which he began composing in 1953 and eventually completed (after interruptions due to other projects) in 1957. Also during his years as an Angeleno, Stravinsky composed his largest-scale opus, "The Rake's Progress." This opera ranks among the foremost of 20th Century lyric stage works, and many music lovers consider it one of the greatest English-language operas of all time (thanks in part to the brilliant libretto by Stravinsky's collaborators, W. H. Auden and Chester Kallman).

Joshua Bell This season, Mr. Bell returns to Wigmore Hall with pianist olli mustonen, bassistEdgar Meyer, cellists Steven Isserlis and Gary Hoffman and the Orion String http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/mehmet/bell.html
Extractions: Joshua Bell The poetic musicality of Joshua Bell has earned the American-born violinist a prominent position among the leading musicians of the world. As winner of the Seventeen Magazine/General Motors competition, he came to national attention at 14 years of age. His Philadelphia Orchestra debut that same year, followed by his Carnegie Hall debut, an Avery Fisher Career Grant and subsequent exclusive recording contract, created a sensation that rapidly spread throughout the music world. Today, at age 30, Joshua Bell has earned a reputation not only as a dynamic performer, but as a dedicated and thoughtful musician who has successfully bridged the gap from child prodigy to inspired and mature artist. Last season marked the inauguration of Joshua Bell's first chamber music festival in London's Wigmore Hall. This season, Mr. Bell returns to Wigmore Hall with pianist Olli Mustonen, bassist Edgar Meyer, cellists Steven Isserlis and Gary Hoffman and the Orion String Quartet for performances featuring works of Martinu, Bartok, Kodaly, and Dvorak. Additional chamber music projects range from festivals in Salzburg, England and Edinburgh with Steven Isserlis and pianist Stephen Hough, to duo recitals with bassist Edgar Meyer in Illinois, and a trio concert with Mssrs. Mustonen and Isserlis at Lincoln Center in New York. Joshua Bell also tours in recital throughout Europe and North America. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, Joshua Bell received his first violin at age five and became seriously committed to the instrument by age twelve when he had the privilege to meet renowned violinist and pedagogue Josef Gingold, who became his beloved teacher and mentor. In 1981, he made his highly acclaimed orchestral debut with Ricardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Since that time, Mr. Bell has performed with the world's leading symphony orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra of London and London Symphony. He has had the opportunity to work with such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Herbert Blomstedt, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, John Eliot Gardiner, James Levine, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yuri Temirkanov, and Franz Welser-Most.

Extractions: A new phase in Finnish music opened in the late 1970s and early 80s with the emergence of young composers who set their sights increasingly on international modernism. Most prominent among them were a group of composers who set up the Ears Open Society in 1977: Eero Hämeenniemi, Kaija Saariaho, Olli Kortekangas, Jouni Kaipainen, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Magnus Lindberg. Especially Saariaho and Lindberg have gained an international reputation since then. Although new music rose to the fore in the 1980s, a plethora of styles have continued to flourish in Finnish music. Even the works of the younger composers reflect the variety of available styles and techniques. A more open, pluralistic attitude again appears to have gained ground during the early 1990s.
