Extractions: A singular mixing of grace and mysterious power has enlightened the Verdi Hall the other evening: performing a very acclaimed recital, Valentina Lisitsa returned to the stage of the Conservatory, as guest (and already a darling) of the Concerts Society. The very blond Ukrainian pianist, born 1971, is one of today's most coveted "starlets" in the main international circuit and, consequently, also in this Milanese series, which is always sensible (and lucky) in picking up at birth many talent of the future (for the "Society" they have debuted almost still unknown, soloists like Bunin, Vengerov or Kissin). The musical balance of this charming artist was shown in a musical itinerary made with vivid contrasts. To a refined chiselling ot the Sonata n.52 of Haydn followed her sumptuous vision of the Etudes Symphoniques of Schumann; to an inner, restrained song, flowing from four Lisztian transcriptions of Schubert's Lieder, have answered the dream and the Mediterranean fire of the Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt: it was a kind of prelude to a rightful explosion of ovations and to four rewarding encores.
