Business New Brunswick Minister Norman Betts made the announcement today. "This performance documentary celebrates the talent and ingenuity of Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey, who came to Bathurst and significantly enhanced New Brunswick as an international cultural destination," Business New Brunswick Minister Norman Betts said. "It is an example of how great things can be done in New Brunswick by being determined and innovative. Now our own skilled filmmakers are telling this success story to the world." Flying on the Moon: The Ludmila Story is written and directed by Christine McLean of Moncton and produced by Timothy M. Hogan of Dreamsmith Entertainment of Moncton and Rick LeGuerrier of West Street Pictures of Moncton. W. James Hogan of Dreamsmith LKH Productions Inc. of Moncton is the executive producer. The film tells the remarkable tale of how classical Czech pianist Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey fell in love with and married a supervisor at a local paper mill in Bathurst. She gave up performing on the great stage of Europe and settled into her in-laws' farmhouse on the Bay of Chaleur. To stay in touch with her European culture, she decided to begin a piano competition that eventually made Bathurst a musical magnet for some of the world's most talented young pianists and a desirable destination for some of the world's best orchestras. The popularity of the competition and Knezkova-Hussey's dedication to it are the focus of the film presentation.
