Extractions: June de Toth, a Hungarian-American pianist whose teachers include Gulda and Firkusny, presents a nicely varied selection of the composer's piano works. Her rhythmic verve, supplemented by lots of drive, is especially good in the dances, and one notices, especially in softer passages, that her tonal and dynamic sensitivity serves Bartók particularly well. The third of the Dirges (Vol.1, track 17) is especially gripping, as is the atmospheric rendering of the final movement of the Op.14 Suite in Vol.2. The piano pickup is warm and intimate. -Igor Kipnis Peter Murano of Classical Net: Review of The Week by Robert Moore, Musical Planet: It's really too bad that the music of Bartók is such a big secret to most people. Granted, Bartók did write (gasp) dissonant music from time to time, but what marvelously tantalizing dissonance it is. How sad that scary movies have provided most people with their only real exposure to music of this variety - and then they weren't even paying attention because they were waiting for The Slasher to come out from the shadows and dispatch somebody with their usual crimson Hollywood aplomb. The pianist for these 2 CDs, Hungarian-American June De Toth has made history with this ambitious series of recordings - as she is the only woman to ever undertake the daunting task of recording the complete solo piano music of Bartók. And it's just as well, because her performances of these works shows a keen insight into the texture and mechanics of Bartók's often difficult piano compositions. Her crystalline and lean interpretations strike me as extremely appropriate, and they make for a set of recordings which, aside from their otherwise historical significance, are WELL worth going out 'n getting ahold of. These recordings ROCK!

Moir Fortepiano Duo - Publications Viennese thoughts Moir Fortepiano Duo (Continuo 1998) Conversation with IgorKipnis arrived at Heathrow they already had the pianist's requisite repertoire http://www.fortepiano.ca/pub2.htm
Extractions: By Frank Stinson There are many things not taught in music school ! The Moir Fortepiano Duo was created. They began touring from their home base of Toronto, traveling as far away as Georgia, performing concerts that included not only the 4-hand literature of Mozart, Clementi, and sons of Bach, but also chamber music with other instrument and solos. "Wally," the fortepiano originally used in touring (named after the walnut wood case) has been joined recently by "Sherry" (named after the cherry wood case) and thus the 2 instruments for a 2-piano team were ready to hit the road. Upon their return to Canada the Moirs settled in Toronto, teaching and concertising throughout southern Ontario. Joined by an actor during the Mozart year of 1991, they performed a creative inter-disciplinary Mozart program through Ontario which included a narration based on the composers' letters. Mozart was one the great letter writers of all times and his letters have created a personal and sometimes humorous autobiography. This program brought life the day-to-day experiences that range from the childhood tours with his father through the ribald youth to Mozart's tragic end that came all too early. Tours in Manitoba and North Dakota featured a more traditional concert program including repertoire of revolutionary France obtained from the Paris Conservatory. The music of revolutionary France is seldom heard due to the severe winter of 1791. Taskin firewood
