Extractions: THE LONG ROAD TO EDUCATION: Sixty-year-old Dixie McCorkindale the mother of four children and grandmother of 13 drives 108 miles round-trip three days a week to take classes at OCC. The neurodiagnostic technology major is an OCC honor student who boasts a near perfect 3.93 grade point average. She's been awarded several scholarships. "I have to do this," she says of her drive to finish school no pun intended. "I'm absolutely compelled to do this. And, I'm having the time of my life at OCC. I love it here. Forty years ago I wanted, in the worst way, to go to college, but my family didn't have the money. Now I'm finally fulfilling a lifelong dream." Born in Santa Ana but raised in Upland, Dixie has lived for many years in San Bernardino.
