The concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday at the theatre, which is on Talladegas historic Courthouse Square. During her visit to Talladega, Ms. Hirata wil also give two student concerts in the auditorium of the new Lincoln Elementary School to more than 1,000 students. The arts education initiative is partially funded by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The young artist began her piano studies at age 3. She emigrated to the United States to continue her studies at the Juilliard School, where she received the Outstanding Senior award. She received her bachelor of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a masters degree from New York University. She received a standing ovation at her official New York debut at Carnegie Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Fine Arts Series performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall of the UWSP Fine Arts Center. Hirata also will hold master classes with Music Department students from noon to 1 p.m. that afternoon in Michelsen Hall. The classes are free and open to the public.
