Sarnia Concert Association: Bellows And Brass Bio new works by Canadian composers including glen Buhr, Peter Canadians Arcuri, Jaeger,Lake, Lanza, hatch, and Hatzis trumpeter Guy Few and saxophonist david Mott http://www.sarnia.com/groups/sca/bellows.htm
Extractions: Brief Bio of Bellows and Brass Bellows and Brass is a trio comprised of three of Canadas busiest and most successful international soloists. Alain Trudel (trombone), Guy Few (piano and trumpet) and Joseph Petric (accordion) have individually been invited to perform as concerto soloists with numerous orchestras around the globe including the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Symphony, the Vienna Radio Orchestra, the ABC Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony. In this ensemble they are committed to making music that is challenging, pleasing and enjoyable. With their unusual and rich combination of instruments and sounds they move effortlessly within and between genres. Their concerts have been described as vividly emotional...passionate...a revelation. All programs include spoken commentary in English, French or Spanish. Hot engaging full of surprises. Thats how audiences describe one of Canadas most irrepressible talents the dual trumpet and piano virtuoso, Guy Few. Perhaps best known for flawlessly playing both instruments simultaneously, Few is one of those rare performers who holds nothing back. Equally at home in the concert hall, cabaret or summer festival stage, Few is also a fine baritone and actor who combines exquisite musicianship with the high voltage energy of the old-fashioned showman. And audiences love it.

It is believed that the fire started in a corner of one of the lounges when a customer unscrewed a light bulbs to provide some privacy for himself and his date. The bartender ordered a busboy to replace the bulb, but the lounge was so dark that the busboy lit a match to find the socket. A short time later, flames appeared and spread to a nearby tinsel palm tree. When the ceiling (festooned in billows of blue satin fabric) exploded into flames, the entire crowd stampeded. The Cocoanut Grove fire prompted major efforts in fire prevention and control for U.S. nightclubs and other related places of assembly.

Extractions: By Eric Wood Having come to York in 1988 from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Professor Beverley Diamond has been an important part of the York music department for almost fifteen years. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with her and talk briefly about her time here at York. In 1988, when Bev first began teaching, York had an impressive M.A. program in ethnomusicology but had yet to establish a Ph.D. program. Before coming to York, Bev recalled being highly impressed by the quality of the M.A. students that York was producing and by the opportunities for interdisciplinary work. Since arriving, one of the goals that Bev has sought to achieve during her stay here was to produce a new generation of scholars, teachers, and artists who would be able to ask questions that had previously been unthinkable. She sought to take musical scholarship in often non-traditional, alternative directions, drawing on post-colonial criticism, feminist ethnomusicology /musicology, gay and lesbian studies, as well as new directions in indigenous studies and popular music studies. She noted that only in the last several decades have such areas really developed in music, a discipline that lagged behind many others in this regard. Thus there has been and still is a considerable need for such work to continue to develop.
