RELATED CONTENT Gilmore Artist Award Anderszewski (On-der-shev-ski), who made his American orchestral debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the Meadow Brook Music Festival in July 2000, will receive $50,000 in cash and $250,000 for any career-related projects, such as purchasing a new piano, commissioning new music or a recording project. Anderszewski, 33, will make his debut as a Gilmore Artist at the 2002 Keyboard Festival, which opens Saturday and continues through May 11. The Gilmore also has selected Jonathan Biss, 21, and Kirill Gerstein, 22, to receive Young Artist Awards. Each will get $15,500 over the next two years to further their careers and education. Created in 1989, the Gilmore Prize is unique in the classical music world in that there is no formal competition. Instead, a committee travels the world, secretly evaluating pianists who are unaware that they have been nominated. The prize is named for the late Irving S. Gilmore, a Kalamazoo businessman, philanthropist and keyboard enthusiast.
