Extractions: Reinecke, ReineckeTrio ...These three musicians are the perfect combination on this disc-pairing off as violist and pianist in op. 43, and as clarinetist and pianist in op. 22, then narrowing down to pianist alone for op. 86 and finally joining full strength for op. 264. The clarinet trio actually comes first in Bongiovanni's sequencing. ... Clarinetist Sergio Bosi takes full advantage of his opportunities in op. 22. and violist Roberto Molinelli gets a full measure of sound from his instrument in op. 43 -in fact, his vibrato is so rich that the instrument at times sounds like a cello. Riccardo Bartoli is fully in control of Reinecke's pianistic demands throughout and brings to the music a warm Italian sensibility that can only increase its expressiveness. An outstanding release. Extractions: Volume 25, Winter 1997 Pianist Thomas Hrynkiw recently recorded a solo disk entitled Russian Romantics for Yamaha's PianoSoft "Classical Collection." the disk combines some of the most well-known and popular selections with others almost unknown in this hemisphere by Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Scriabin and Anatoly Liadov. It begins with perhaps Rachmaninoff's most famous work for piano, the Prelude in C Sharp minor, also known as the "Bells of Moscow." It was so popular in the composer's day that audiences demanded he play it at all of his concerts. Following is the Prelude in G minor, the "Militaire,´with its robust rhythms and contrasting lyrical middle section. Also from op. 23 of Rachmaninoff is the Prelude in E Flat, reminiscent of the Second Piano Concerto, and the Prelude in G Sharp minor, with its soulful melody against a rippling right hand accompaniment. Almost unknown in the U.S. is the Prelude in B minor of Liadov with its dreamlike character. It is a favorite of Dr. Mark P. Malkovich III, general director of the Newport Music Festival, who programmed and introduced Mr. Hrynkiw to it at the Festival.
