Audience Was Enamored Of ASO's Classical music review TROY pianist yefim bronfman played his first performanceever of Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's war horse Piano Concerto No. http://www.albanysymphony.com/TU_review_nov 15_2002.htm
Extractions: TROY Pianist Yefim Bronfman played his first performance ever of Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's war horse Piano Concerto No. 1 in Kalamazoo, Mich., just a short while ago. On Friday, he played his second performance of Tchaikovsky's First with David Alan Miller conducting the Albany Symphony Orchestra in the third concert of its 2002-03 subscription season. Also on the program in Troy Savings Bank Music Hall was Claude Debussy's diaphanous tone poem "Afternoon of a Faun" and Philadelphia composer Vincent Persichetti's Symphony No. 7, commissioned in 1959 by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to open its 80th season. Friday's program was titled "Tonight We Love" in honor of the popular song that uses the opening tune from Tchaikovsky's much-played concerto. Bronfman was sensational. His high-voltage account of the Tchaikovsky First had all the qualities we associate with the pianist's remarkable mastery of his instrument, the kind of big, broad bravura attack that sent chills up the spine. His runs had the kind of filigreed clarity that made you hang on every note. The sheer power of Bronfman's playing was amazing to watch as well. His lovely lyric second movement andantino semplice was as sweet and pure as Tchaikovsky gets.
