5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I have several books on Bacon, and this is by far the best. This book is actually one of the best artist monographs I have seen in terms of images. There are 195 full color plates, along with 21 gate-folds of Bacon's triptychs--and these are LARGE plates too.Small essay in the beginning, but if you just want to look at Bacon paintings, buy this book. ... The most interesting book I have ever read on the life of Bacon. This book is for both the new student to Bacon, as well as more seasoned researchers.A must read for all people interested in the enlightenment and advancement of mankind.Come with an open mind!

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolutely incredible book.
This book finally unravels perhaps the greatest story never told.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Alfred Dodd was a 20th century Englishman and Mason who has written the finest biography ever published of Francis Bacon and his times. . Every English literature course should have this book as required reading if it was required to know who Shakespeare really was.

The "Francis Bacon's Personal Life Story" champions the exemplary character of Francis Bacon and his extraordinary commitments to English literature, science and the making of a better world.

Dodd's book informs both the new student to the subject as well as advanced researchers on the historical relationship Bacon had with Masonry, Rosicrucianism, the authorship of Shakespeare, his Tudor identity and tumultuous relationship with Queen Elizabeth, Burleigh and Cecil, Essex, and other key Elizabethans by presenting Bacon as the guiding spirit behind the Renaissance period. The book which was once published as two separate volumes covers the Queen Elizabeth and King James eras.

The author has culminated a life long study with historical references and insights that surpass all mainstream biographies of Bacon.Dodd also portrays the underlying censorship of the Elizabethan times. It may be interesting to note that in today's prevailing attitude in the academic world, the press, and other institutions entrusted with archives that Shakespeare authorship issues are downplayed as insignificant or amusing fads. This book will educate the public while changing attitudes about Bard politics ... Product Description
By modern standards Bacon's writings are striking in their range and diversity, and they are too often considered a separate specialist concerns in isolation from each other. Dr Jardine finds a unifying principle in Bacon's preoccupation with 'method', the evaluation and organisation of information as a procedure of investigation or of presentation. She shows how such an interpretation makes consistent (and often surprising) sense of the whole corpus of Bacon's writings: how the familiar but misunderstood inductive method for natural science relations to the more information strategies of argument in his historical, ethical, political and literary work. There is a substantial and valuable study of the intellectual Renaissance background from which Bacon emerged and against which he reacted. Through a series of details comparisons and contrasts we are led to appreciate the true originality and ingenuity of Bacon's own views and also to discount the more superficial resemblances between them and later developments in the philosophy of science. ... This volume of eight new essays by leading scholars provides a stimulating dialogue between a range of critical perspectives. Encompassing the fields of cultural history, history of science, literature, and politics, the collection explores The New Atlantis' complex location within Bacon's oeuvre and its negotiations with cultural debates of the past and present. Often regarded as the apotheosis of Bacon's ideas through its depiction of an advanced “scientific” society, it is also read as a seminal work of science fiction.

All is not in years to me; somewhat is in hours well spent."—Promus."Yet hath Sir Proteus, for that's his name, Made use and fair advantage of his days; His head uumellow'd, but his judgment ripe." —Two Gentlemen of Verona, ii. 4.MANY and various opinions have been expressed in modern times concerning Francis Bacon, and the motives and aims supposed to have influenced his course and actions in public capacities. We may safely pass by these phases of his wonderful career, so carefully and devotedly recorded in the calm pages of James Spedding, 1 and will for the present consider the personality and life of Bacon from two different aspects: first, as the poet; secondly, as the most ardent promoter, if not the founder, of a vast secret society, destined to create a complete reformation in learning, science, literature, and religion itself, throughout the whole wide world. In the lively works of Hepworth Dixon, and in scattered episodes in Spedding's Life of Bacon, we get occasional peeps behind the scene. But, in the last named work especially, it appears as if we were not meant to do so. The facts that Bacon in his youth " masked and mummed," and led the revels at Gray's Inn; that throughout his life he was appealed to on all great occasions to write witty speeches for others to deliver at the gorgeous " entertainments " which were the fashion of the day (and in which, doubtless, he took a leading part, in the background); that he and his brother Anthony, who was living with him in 1594,actually removed from their lodgings in Gray's Inn to a house in Bishopsgate Street, in the immediate neighborhood of The Bull Inn, where plays and interludes were acted. These and many such important factors in his p... ... Read more
