3-0 out of 5 stars A VERY BRITISH STORY ON AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
MR. BERNARD IRELAND wrote several books on WARSHIPS and the AIRCRAFT
CARRIERS is one of them. It is a very interesting and comprehensive book
on history, construction, classes, design and fuctions etc. on various
countries' AIRCRAFT CARRIERS. It is a good introductory book for young
people in expanding knowledge on topics such as:AIRCRAFT CARRIERS.

It has a very complete list on informations of muti-nationals Aircraft
carriers. However, the information is far from update as comparing to
professional publications supplied by USNI PRESS.

So, for the real enthusiasts on AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, Mr.BERNARD IRELAND's
book is quite disappointing!! Particularly, IRELAND's book focused very
specifically on BRITISH AIRCRAFT CARRIERS or INDIA AIRCRAFT CARRIERS supplied by ROYAL NAVY such
as the HMS"HERMES", HMS"INVINCIBLE" etc.

Of course, THE BRITISH ROYAL NAVY is renowned on WORLD SEA WARFARES since LORD H. NELSON defeated THE FRENCH/SPANISH NAVY in TRAFALGAR in world
history. The detail history for the interested can check NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS.

HOWEVER, for AIRCRAFT CARRIERS BOOK doesn't seem to be complete if you
do not complete the RUSSIAN & AMERICAN AIRCRAFT CARRIERS in more detail. No doubt, MR.BERNARD IRELAND is a NAVAL SCHOLAR, a very PATRIOTIC BRITISH ROYAL NAVAL EXPERT to be exact. So, it is not surprising for MR. BERNARD
IRELAND to emphasize more on his beloved country's BRITISH ROYAL NAVY.
I admire MR.BERNARD IRELAND's PATRIOTISM!!

I have strong conviction that Mr.IRELAND's book serves as a good reference for
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT's interests in AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, which are
very important PEACE-KEEPING WARSHIP in MODERN DAYS.

For the very serious readers, I recommend Dr.NORMAN FRIEDMAN & DR.NORMAN
POLMAR BOOKS from UNITED STATES NAVAL INSTITUTE PRESS.

I would like to share with you more if you don't mind my humble opinions,
until then I remain your friend from HONG KONG,CHINA.

Thank you AMAZON.com for your GREAT SERVICE!!

BEST REGARDS,

STEPHEN M. YUNG,

Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH SCHOOL OFENGINEERING report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A273163. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This laboratory thesis investigated the applicability of reflectancespectroscopy as a tool to measure desorption rates by directly observing thechange in trichloroethylene bound to surface sites. Diffuse reflectancespectroscopy holds the promise of being a faster technique with minimal samplepreparation time. Reflectance spectroscopy's dependence on the surface of thesample is its greatest advantage, as well as its greatest disadvantage. Bothhigh and low resolution scans were made of different soil samples contaminatedby trichloroethylene. After the technique of spectral subtraction was used, potential TCE signals were observed from the dolomitic limestone sample.Unfortunately, due to the low level of the signal and high amount of noise, positive identification of the signals as TCE could not be established. The lowresolution scans were unable to detect any possible TCE signals. More data isrequired to determine the sensitivity of the device as well as prove thelinearity of the signal with concentration, before this technique can be provento be useful for studying desorption kinetics. ... This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A435714. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The J-52 engine used in the EA-6B Prowler has been found to have a faulty design which has led to in-flight engine failures due to the degradation of the 4.5 roller bearing. Because of cost constraints, the Navy developed a policy of maintaining rather than replacing the faulty engine with a re-designed engine. With an increase in Prowler crashes related to the failure of this bearing, the Navy has begun to re-evaluate this policy. This thesis analyzed the problem using methods in reliability statistics to develop policy recommendations for the Navy. One method analyzed the individual times to failure of the bearings and fit the data to a known distribution. Using this distribution, we estimated lower confidence bounds for the time which 0.0001% of the bearings are expected to fail, finding it was below fifty hours. Such calculations can be used to form maintenance and replacement policies. Another approach analyzed oil samples taken from the J-52 engine. The oil samples contain particles of different metals that compose the 4.5 roller bearing. Linear regression, classification and regression trees, and discriminant analysis were used to determine that molybdenum and vanadium levels are good indicators of when a bearing is near failure. ... It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A392453. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This research entailed a comparison of five software estimatingmodels: PRICE-S, SEER-SEM, SoftCost-OO, SoftEst, and SPR KnowledgePLAN. Theobjective was to research the differences of the software models as related tosoftware support cost. The following major question areas were addressed: (1)How do the differences between the models impact the resulting cost estimates?(2) To what degree can we explain and adjust for the differences between costmodels? All items were for flight avionics of a manned aircraft. The differences between the models significantly impact the resulting estimates. Over the fivemodels evaluated, a range of over $60 million occurred during a twenty yearestimate. The researchers can explain the differences in the models due to thedifferent algorithms used, but were not able to normalize the models to achieveequivalent estimates. The researchers feel a typical user will not be able tonormalize separate models and should, therefore, concentrate on learning one ortwo models in detail. Different models are more appropriate depending on thetask or project being estimated. ... Read more

This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A115023. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: A methanogenic-methanotrophic system has been established to assess the capability of sequential treatment to transform the chlorinated aliphatics perchloroethylene (PCE), carbon tetrachloride (CT) and 1,1,1-trichloroethane (1, 1,1-TCA). Experiments compared the transformation of PCE alone and in a mixture of the target compounds. A comparison of acetate and iron as electron donors was also made. Data from the anaerobic systems have shown that PCE transformation is inhibited when in a mixture with CT and 1,1,1-TCA compared to when it is fed alone. When iron is the electron donor, PCE and 1,1,1-TCA are transformed without an acclimation period. CT was completely transformed regardless of the electron donor used. The acetate-fed system required approximately 60 days to acclimate to 1,1,1-TCA and 70 days for acclimation to PCE. Although the sequential system has been constructed, sampling from the aerobic column was not done before the thesis project ended. More investigation is required to determine the ability of the sequential system to degrade PCE, CT, and 1,1,1- TCA. ... Read more
