Product Description
A remarkable account of the author’s struggleagainst a rare form of mouth cancer. Although daunted by the requests to write herstory, only someone actually going through this experience could have written with suchhonesty. The reader is given an insight into the procedures and treatment as thediagnosis, operation and therapy take place. The factual elements of this book aresupported by a very personal account of the feelings, emotions and reactions of theauthor, her husband and family. A photographic record was kept and the pictures thathave been included graphically help to tell the story and were carefully selected asshowing ‘key points’ along the way. Although a very specific form ofcancer, the information on treatments such as radiotherapy will be helpful to anyonegoing through treatment themselves or who knows someone who is. The author does notgloss over difficulties or problems and each situation is faced realistically includingthe lowest points. Letters written during the lonely dark nights by Christine to herdaughter in New Zealand are especially moving.

From a Christianpoint of view the book is a testimony to the power of prayer, love and friendshipshowing how God can bring us through the most difficult times to a place of peace, acceptance and hope for the future. ... Read more

From the author: Detection and prevention of oral cancer is an integral part of dental hygiene practice. Currently, much is known about the etiology and prevention of cancers of the aerodigestive tract. Poor nutrition is responsible for one-third of all cases. Antioxidant nutrients are assuming more importance in cancer research, including those of the aerodigestive tract. This review article will provide current information on antioxidant nutrients and their possible role as a chemopreventive agent in the development and treatment of oral cancer. In addition, recommendations will be made for incorporating nutrition education into dental hygiene practice.
