Product Description
Dengue, and its potentially fatal forms, denguehemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome, again have become aserious health problem in many parts of the Americas. Although acampaign once practically eradicated Aedes aegypti, the disease'sprincipal vector, from the Region, most of the countries werereinfested and have suffered epidemics due to the curtailing of publicexpenditure on health that took place during the 1980s. Clearly, a newset of guidelines were needed.

The present guidelines stress the fact that dengue is primarily aproblem of domestic sanitation. Through physical means and without theoveruse of chemicals, A. aegypti and the other important vector, A.albopictus, can be eliminated. Contrary to the centralized andvertically structured programs of the past, these guidelines emphasizeways to transfer the responsibility, capability, and motivation fordengue control and prevention to the community.

Prepared by eighteen representatives from seven countries in theAmericas and several PAHO staff members, all experts in the field, this publication fills a critical niche in the fight against dengue inthe Americas, and is an invaluable tool for health professionalsworking in vector control everywhere. ... Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Hemorrhagic Fever With Renal Syndrome, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs) are a group of illnesses caused by four families of viruses. These include the Ebola and Marburg viruses and Lassa fever virus. Some VHFs cause mild disease, but some, like Ebola or Marburg, cause severe disease and death. For patients, practical information is provided in clearly written patient education documents. For medical professionals, doctor reference tools and texts have detailed technical information and clinical background material. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, and portable - everything you need to know, from the federal sources you trust. The Bunyaviridae family is divided into 5 genera: Orthobunyavirus, Nairovirus, Phlebovirus, Tospovirus, and Hantavirus. Like all members of this family, hantaviruses have genomes comprising three negative-sense, single-stranded RNA segments, and so are classified as negative sense RNA viruses. Viruses in the genus Hantavirus are unique in that they are transmitted by aerosolized rodent excretia or rodent bites, whereas all other genera in the Bunyaviridae family are arthropod-borne viruses. The name hantavirus is derived from the Hantan River, where the Hantaan virus (the etiologic agent of Korean hemorrhagic fever) was first isolated by Dr. Ho-Wang Lee and colleagues. Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever first described in 1969 in the town of Lassa, in Borno State, Nigeria located in the Yedseram river valley at the south end of Lake Chad. Clinical cases of the disease had been known for over a decade earlier but not connected with this viral pathogen. The infection is endemic in West African countries, and causes 300-500,000 cases annually with approximately 5,000 deaths. Outbreaks of the disease have been observed in Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and the Central African Republic, but it is believed that human infections also exist in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, and Senegal. Its primary animal host is the Natal Multimammate Mouse (Mastomys natalensis), an animal indigenous to most of Sub-Saharan Africa. Although the rodents are also a source of protein for peoples of these areas, the virus is probably transmitted by the contact with the feces and urine of animals accessing grain stores in residences. ...
