Product Description
Cooley's anemia, or thalassemia major, is a blood disorder characterized by a marked increase in F hemoglobin and a decrease in the production of certain oxygen-carrying proteins in red blood cells. Thalassemia major is the most severe form of the chronic familial anemias that result from the premature destruction of red blood cells and is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. In the years since the Seventh Cooley's Anemia Symposium, held in 1997, major advances have taken place in the understanding and treatment of the disease. The molecular mechanisms responsible for the switch from fetal hemoglobin to adult hemoglobin production have been further clarified, while new drugs to enhance the production of fetal hemoglobin and relieve the anemia of thalassemia have been introduced and studied. Understanding of the relationship between molecular genotype and clinical phenotype has been advanced, and the techniques for molecular diagnosis, including prenatal diagnosis, have been vastly improved. Most importantly, there have been dramatic improvements in teh treatment and prevention of complications of thalassemia. As a result, patients are now living longer, albeit with more disability. Problems such as osteoporosis, heart failure, growth hormone deficiency, pulmonary hypertension, and infertility can now be detected early and treated. This volume not only focuses on the advances over the last six or seven years, but also illuminates many unsolved but critically important issues in the understanding and treatment of thalassemia, thus offering the scientific, clinical, care-giving, and patient communities the most up-to-date exchange on the current and future perspectives of the disease. ... Product Description
Healthy children are happy children. When a home is a healthy child, the parents are happier because the child plays and learns things every day, is a hyperkinetic and intelligent child the joy of being home. Having a healthy child should be as common in the vast majority of families that are formed. A large majority of children born are healthy and therefore happy. Continue healthy if their mothers breastfeed their children until age two complementing it with organic food. And from 2 years to 12 years will be strong and healthy children if their diet is adequate.

There is a small percentage of sick children, either because they were born so or because they acquired a disease from infection (bronchitis, asthma) or a virus (flu) or a poor diet (allergies). When a child is sick there is sadness in the house, the child is still in bed, not playing with friends, cry for anything, it becomes capricious as some mothers to give presents unnecessary calm, the whole family is taking care child because it is a major concern and the time lost in this disease is one time the child stops learning new things and ultimately not smiling.

There is a myriad of diseases that have children; some are common as the flu. There is a saying that has more than 50 years: "The flu in the doctor heals in 7 days without medical assistance is cured in a week." We tell them that the flu if it can be cured with natural methods and economic, with home remedies found in the kitchen, but only if done the first day of treatment, to take a drop of onion (swab) in each nostril of the child, but it burns heal immediately. You can only use this treatment when the flu has just begun and only if condition in the nose filled with mucus. When you pass the second day and there are already coughing from the chest, there is no remedy. You just have to wait for 7 days. ... Read more

Product Description

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
So I got Super Cell Anemia last night (after having to order it to the book store). It's really quite excellent so far -I've read through about 130 pages. The author splits the book into 2 main sections of storytelling. First is through the normal pacing, which always starts with a journal entry, and then continues after the italicized text into present tense. The other type of chapters begin with specific places, (like apartment rooms, a mansion, etc.) because the main character of the story has obsessive compulsive problems (he's always aware of sounds and investigates them) so he somewhat stalks on what people are doing.

It's really interesting so far and the author, Duncan B. Barlow, uses a quirky, almost naive way of explaining things.

The story touches on themes like sex, religion, paranoia, and motherhood. And then off of motherhood, rebellion I guess. An exotic dancer the main character likes, Charlie, had a mother that tortured her into learning ballet perfectly. Then as she grew up, she stopped dancing, but then started again, only now impurifying the ballet with many other different styles of dancing (leading to her exotic dancing). That was her form of revenge against her mother. But he's afraid to have sex or any form of relationship with her because he's obsessed with staying free of germs, haha.

As for the plot, the main character, Gilles, is electric and moved to Ohio so he could be investigated by Dr. Moore. The doctor gave him copper strips so he could relieve the electric currents through his limbs. And he's also been noticing sounds outside of his window at night to discover a mutant cat man, wearing a tuxedo, staring at him.Among other problems, he's also trying to date an exotic dancer.

It's odd (and unnerving/unsettling as the story progresses), but really fun and thoughtful as well.I highly recommend it.Excellent.I hope that Barlow writes more after this. ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Iron deficiency anemia is a common type of anemia, and is known as sideropenic anemia. It is the most common cause of microcytic anemia. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when the dietary intake or absorption of iron is insufficient, and hemoglobin, which contains iron, cannot be formed. In the United States, 20% of all women of childbearing age have iron deficiency anemia, compared with only 2% of adult men. The principal cause of iron deficiency anemia in premenopausal women is blood lost during menses. Iron deficiency anemia can be caused by parasitic infections, such as hookworms. Intestinal bleeding caused by hookworms can lead to fecal blood loss and heme/iron deficiency. Chronic inflammation caused by parasitic infections contributes to anemia during pregnancy in most developing countries. ... Read more
