1446 Apr 16, Filippo Brunelleschi (69), architect, sculptor and goldsmith, died and was buried in the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Flower in Florence. In the 1490s Antonio di Tuccio Manetti authored "The Life of Brunelleschi." In 1974 Isabelle Hyman authored "Brunelleschi in Perspective."
(ON, 9/00, p.8)(MC, 4/16/02) 1452 Apr 15, Leonardo da Vinci (d.1519), Italian painter, sculptor, scientist and visionary, was born in Vinci near Florence. He apprenticed to the painters Verrocchio and Antonio Pollaiuolo and was accepted to the Florentine painters' guild at twenty. Only seventeen surviving paintings can be attributed to him. These include: "The Last Supper" in Milan, the "Mona Lisa" and "The Virgin and Child with St. Anne" in the Louvre. He tried to express his immense knowledge of the world by simply looking at things. The secret he said was "saper vedere," to know how to see. His final "Visions of the End of the World" was a sketchbook in which he tried to depict his sense of the forces of nature, which in his imagination he conceived of as possessing a unity that no one had ever seen before. His use of a smoky atmosphere (sfumato) helped create an impression of lifelikeness.

Perth , Drummond Twp., Lanark Co., Ontario Canada UPDATED 31 DEC Below are some of the BMD’s, and miscellaneous Newspaper Items I have come across while researching my family tree. Some items were difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass, so I have added a “( )” or “?” around the letter, word or date that I am unsure of and have added what I think it looks like. If you see in brackets (rest was cut off) that just means, that a portion of it was cut off by accident, when the page was copied. I have highlighted the families (the ones that I know of), which are connected to ours by using Bold Type In brackets (after the item), is the date the article was placed in the newspaper. I’ve been working on this quite a bit, so don’t be surprised if you find some typo’s. Good luck in your search.
