Do you think building stuff is neat? Do you want to learn some robotics? This might be the class for you. No previous experience with robotics or legos is necessary- if you have no idea how a gear train works, that's fine, and if you've been building with technic legos since before you could walk, that's fine too. The seminar is not organized in a traditional We Lecture, You Listen way. Rather, it's a hands-on class where you work on projects and we the tutors provide direction and suggestions. We may stand up and give a brief talk about different kinds of robotic control, or show you how to hook up the sensors, or suggest 'tricks' that make your life easier. In lab, you will be constructing lego robots and learning how program them in Interactive C, the language used by the 6.270 IAP Lego robotics competition (much of our electronic hardware comes from past 6.270 competitions). The seminar is worth 6 credits, so six hours a week of work are expected. Four out of the six hours should be supervised lab hours (we the tutors will set up times we can be here), while the other two are on your own time. Some people end up spending a lot of their free time here too- it's supposed to be exciting!
