The Wacky World of Jen Synchronized Swimming! What is it, you say? Well, Synchronized Swimming is a female sport that combines grace and strength, fluidity and precision, and a variety of other skills to create a beautiful image. How do people compete, it seems like a show sport to me? The components of Synchronized Swimming are: Routines Figures Routines This is the part of Synchro - as those of us who are familiar with it call it - that people see. We perform sequences of originals with arm sequences in between. Just as in figure skating, it is all done to music. Routines require breath control, strength, quickness, sharpness, and vitality, we do have to entertain the judges so they score us high. Routines can be done in four ways: SOLO - alone DUET - two person show TRIO - three's company TEAM - four to eight people at once! Figures This is the part of Synchro that requires control. A figure is similar to an original in a routine, but one of the objectives is not speed. We are trying to show the judges how slow and controlled everything we do is while we maintain the proper positions with our bodies. Routines and figures get scored by judges. Judges can be qualified anywhere from locally to nationally according to the tests they have taken so far. The judges rate us on a scale from one to ten, ten being the highest. The meets (competitions) also range from local to national. The order is:
