is recognized as the "Winningest Musher in the World." His victories include not only the 1,049 mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 1993, 1996, and 1998, but also over two dozen first place finishes in races all across Alaska. During the past 20 years, Jeff has logged more than 100,000 miles on a dog sled. Jeff moved to Alaska in 1975 in search of adventure. He quickly became interested in dog sledding and Alaska huskies, devoting all his spare time and money to building his own team, while developing a construction business. He began racing in 1980. His competitive nature had found a new outlet, and Jeff set his sights ever higher, entering his first Iditarod just one year later. In 1992 he decided to devote his full time and energy to training and racing, setting aside his construction business. He won his first Iditarod the following season. While on a training run in Denali National Park in 1980, Jeff's team became entangled with that of a new volunteer ranger, and thus he met his future wife. Donna Gates came to Denali after finishing her master's degree in Medical Illustration. She and Jeff married in 1983 and began developing their homestead on Goose Lake just south of the park entrance. The King family also includes three daughters

Advisory Committee Organizers Blue Streak Pro races are organized and managed by Blue Streak Race Management, LLC, a limited liability company organized by Steve and Judy Bergemann of Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin, for the purpose of producing and promoting professional sled dog races. In addition to competing in speed sled dog racing for over 30 years, we have been active in race production and promotion for over 15 years. We founded the Northwestern Wisconsin Sled Dog Committee and Sled Dog Sports, Inc. and worked as Race Development Coordinators for the North Star Sled Dog Club of Minnesota for several years. Martin moved to Alaska in 1979 to learn more about sled dogs and ran his first Iditarod in 1980 and again in 1981. After taking a short break from racing, Martin returned to the Iditarod in 1986 and has run every Iditarod since. Martin's first place finishes so far have been in 1992, 1994, 1997, and 2002. Martin became a US citizen in 2002 at the finish of that year's Iditarod. Sven Haltmann is this winter's new handler. He is 24 years old and from Appenzel, Switzerland. He is a travel guide on European Islands in the summer and a dog handler in the winter. He likes extreme summers and extreme winters. He likes to chill out in the winter, relax and work with dogs. His hobbies include climbing, snowboarding, and mushing. When asked how he had the idea to mush in Alaska, he replied, "I love snow and I love dogs, so how could I mix those two: dogmushing, of course." So far, he likes it very much at Happy Trails. "Everytime we leave the dogyard, you never know what you can expect out there on the trail. It's just everytime and adventure and a discovering of myself; how I react in different situations."

Tasha was the first female musher to cross the finish line, was Rookie of the Year and her team and handlers won the coveted Best Kept Team award. We couldn't be more proud of our kennel. Ed and Tasha both finished the UP 200 in February, Ed in 7th place and Tasha in 11th place. Thirty teams started the 240 mile race, and only fourteen finished. We are so proud of the dogs, what a great team! This is the first time in the 14 year history of the race that a husband and wife both finished the UP 200 in the same year. ABSA - Affiliated British Sleddog Activites SLED DOG SPRINT RACING - TREKS - SOCIALS ABSA was founded in 1992 by a few established event organisers living in the South of England. Over the preceding years, they had become increasingly aware of the need for a specialist body to offer guidance in all aspects of the rapidly growing Sport of sleddog competition in Great Britain. ABSA's aim, therefore, is to not only encourage and support events encompassing all the various sleddog activities and co-ordinating them into a workable calendar, but to also show the way to achieving quality organisational skills and progressing the Sport alongside other countries. ABSA Membership is restricted to Event Organisers who are willing to give of their time to assist others and who continually strive to improve standards and promote the Sport in a co-operative manner. ABSA is now entering it's twelfth season, continuing to attract good support from mushers by averaging nearly 60 entries per event, with ten or so events each winter which span the south and middle of the UK. The 20 year old ABSA Affiliated Sled Dog Events' New Forest weekend event near Southampton is its centrepiece, attracting over 80 entries each year. Mushers are invited on a yearly basis to compete at the various events which include treks and socials. The ABSA structure allows the scheduling of several standard classes and variations of them, the event organisers free to choose classes that suit their preferences and their venues. All races have computer-assisted timing and provide result printouts for the mushers.
