Bicycling
The town of Avalon offers some fine level riding, especially along the shore east to Pebbly Beach or west to Descanso Beach. Most of Avalon's charming older cottages are on "the flats",in the canyon bottom, and can be toured comfortably. Avalon's hillside roads are quite steep, however, and a many-geared bike is recommended. The ride is worth it, as the views are impressive. To get into the Island's interior you need a Conservancy permit, a mountain bike, and strong legs. It's a 1500 foot, two mile climb to the summit above Avalon! The unspoiled hills are worth it though, and you can make a day trip to the beaches on Catalina's windward side (see Map of Catalina
Rentals in Avalon
  • Rentals of single, multi-speed and tandem bikes at hourly, daily and weekly rates are available in Avalon. Parts, repair and sales are also provided. Only the 21-speed rentals can be taken beyond Avalon, into the Island's interior. This requires a permit form the Conservancy (see below).

I n January of 1999 I set out for two weeks of adventure by bicycle. The four of us, led by Bicycle Africa's David Mozer and his Ugandan assistant, had the chance to see beautiful scenery, interact with the locals, and absorb the warm, friendly Ugandan culture and hospitality. This web-site chronicles the trip with the help of my journal entries and photo album. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. I'd also love to hear any comments you might have on the trip or my web-site.

Bicycling on Cape Cod Even though our focus is on walking, users have asked us for information about
bicycling on Cape Cod. Usually, these folks are from off-Cape, and thus do not have
access to the printed material available in local bookstores. Many of us who walk
regularly are also bike riders, so we can be of some help. Consider this as a work in
progress, however. First, we will show scanned maps of some of the paved bicycle trails. Then we will add,
one at a time, descriptions of road routes that we know and like. Only experienced bicyclists
should ride the roads of Cape Cod. Family groups in particular should only ride on paved
trails. Everyone should wear a helmet. You only need it once!

Welcome to MORC Online! Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC) is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to safeguarding the future of mountain biking in Minnesota through the promotion of responsible riding, establishment and maintenance of mountain biking trails, and preservation of Minnesota's natural resources.
Ready for Spring? We are all eager to get out there as quickly as possible this spring and ride. However, it is important that everyone respect the trails as they dry up. Not all parks will be fenced off and closed like Lebanon Hills was today. Please stay off until you see trail openings posted here or on the message forums at www.mtbmn.com . The trails will dry up soon enough, and if we all keep off them during the thawing out period this spring we can concentrate on building new trails rather than repairing damaged ones. It only takes on rider not using his head. Yes, it may get warm.. 60s.. even 70s aren't too far away. Please - give it some time and we'll all be riding in no time! We could use photos!
