W ubieg³orocznej edycji "Dnia mostu" oko³o 300 spadochroniarzy, w ci±gu 6 godzin wykona³o 770 skoków. W kulminacyjnym momencie z mostu zawieszonego 267 m nad ziemi± jednocze¶nie skoczy³o 15 ¶mia³ków. W pó³nocnej Korolinie skoki mo¿na wykonywaæ z masztu antenowego o wysoko¶ci 510 m. Natomiast w Wenezueli mi³o¶nicy BASE jumpingu mog± rzuciæ siê w 1000 m przepa¶æ wodospadu Salto del Angel.

BASE Jumping
Posted Thursday, December 21, 2000
Photo by Jussi Laine BASE is an acronym that stands for the 4 categories of objects that people jump from. B is for Building, A is for Antenna, S is for Span (generally a bridge), E is for Earth formation (generally a cliff). Once a person has parachuted at least once off of each of the 4 categories of objects, he or she is eligible for BASE number. BASE Jumping is an extremely dangerous sport. You could be seriously injured or killed, detained, arrested and possibly deported as a result of your (alleged) participation. If you are a highly experienced parachutist and are interested in BASE jumping, seek guidance from an experienced BASE jumper in your area. Otherwise, don't do it.

Base jumping
The first time I heard the term BASE jumping I knew it had been too long since my last attendance of a Major League baseball game. I have always known about stealing bases but jumping them? Well, I have since found out BASE jumping has absolutely nothing to do with baseball. Instead, BASE is an acronym for Building, Antennae, Span, Earth; these being the fixed objects enthusiasts jump from. BASE-jumping is simply the sport of jumping from one of the above-mentioned fixed objects instead of a plane and using a parachute to (hopefully) reach the ground safely. Every once in a while the news broadcasts will make mention of a man or woman who on that day jumped from El Capitan in Yosemite National Park or the Golden Gate Bridge, World Trade Center, Eiffel Tower, and a host of other places. In most cases the jumper is charged with a misdemeanor violation while others actually spend time in jail. bodyOffer(32384) While many think of BASE jumping as a “new” sport, the first time a parachute was used to leap from a building was when Stefan Banic, a Slovak inventor tested a prototype of a parachute he had designed and constructed. His testing procedure was to leap from a forty-one story building in Washington, D.C. Mr. Banic patented his new invention and began testing them by jumping out of airplane. The year was 1914 and Banic’s parachute became standard equipment for U.S. pilots during the First World War. Stefan Banic was the first to conceive the parachute idea though. Some five hundred years ago, a famous artist, sculptor and inventor by the name of Leonardo De Vinci made a sketch of a device he was thinking of. On Tuesday, June 27, 2000 his idea was put to the test at 13:04 GMT. Against all the odds given by the “experts,” De Vinci’s 187 pound parachute made of wood and canvas was dropped by a hot air balloon and landed its human cargo, Adrian Nichols, safely to ground in Mpumalanga, South Africa

27. Base Jumping
base jumping is without a doubt my favorite sport in the world. Which I did.base jumping is extremely dangerous, and not for the faint at heart.
http://www.troyhartman.com/base_jumping.htm
BASE jumping is without a doubt my favorite sport in the world. If I had to give up all other activities and keep only one, it would be BASE. The feeling you get when you leap off of a stationary object is like nothing else in the world. Nothing. You are jumping into dead space, with absolutely no noise or wind resistance. Since the jump starts from a standstill, you experience the full effect of acceleration toward terminal velocity. This is entirely different from jumping out of a noisy airplane that already has velocity and is creating wind resistance. Don't get me wrong. Jumping out of an airplane still feels incredible, but just cannot touch a fixed object exit. BASE stands for four different types of objects: Building, Antenna, Span, or Earth. Span is just a nifty word for bridge or cable car. I have by far most of my jumps off of a bridge (probably 80 or so), followed by Earth (cliffs) and only a handful of jumps off of buildings and antennas. I don't like antennas (AM/FM towers) only because of the harmful radiation effect and voltage zaps you get from climbing around on them. Buildings are a rush because you have to sneak into them, get elevator access (or climb stairs, which sucks) and then usually trip some sort of alarm getting on the roof. So you have to be geared up in the stairwell and ready to jump right away. Then, once you land, you need a getaway car ready to blaze out of there, fast. Cliff jumps are my favorite because you have to hike your ass off and you get to hang out in beautiful places.

...or, more correctly jumping off them. It's sky-diving with out the aeroplane . You (not I) leap off the biggest thing you can find, then crack your canopy and float gently to the ground - before the coppers come a-runnin'. Most places, it's illegal. That's because, if you don't know what you're doing, it's incredibly dangerous !! You've only got a few seconds to freefall - and pull off tricks if you're good enough - before the proximity of the ground suggests that you better pull that 'chute - NOW It is occasionally sanctioned - Like at the

BASE jumping in Yosemite

A personal view
The first time I had heard of El Capitan, more than fifteen years ago, was not from another climber, but from a French army officer of the Air Force Fusilliers Commandos . He was traveling to California and couldn't pass up on the opportunity. He hiked by himself in the afternoon to the top of the mountain, waited a few hours into the night, and jumped and landed in the dark without any fear. Aftewards, he had a custom T-shirt made, and was amused to see how some American skydivers seemed outraged. BASE jumping refers to the four general types of structures from which people jump: Buildings, Antennas, Spans (bridges) and Earth (cliffs). It is the most extreme form of skydiving because altitudes can be ridiculously low, the objects themselves represent a hazard, and landing areas can be quite small. Of course, the more extreme it is, the more it attracts some people. At one point, I looked seriously into it, but fortunately :-) I was distracted by other pursuits. The sport really begin in earnest in 1978, when freefall photographer Carl Boenish led a group of jumpers to El Capitan's summit and produced a spectacular short film of their skydives. The film inspired jumpers to visit Yosemite Valley and NPS, not knowing how to

The Bridge Day Tapes
LEMMINGS Exits y2K is a chronicle of all the jumps that were possible to film at the event of October 2000. See what went well and, more importantly, what didn't. See BASE CRW, the Boxman, Piggyback BASE, backwards canopies, canopies spinning into the river, the Chicken Man finds the trees, low pulls, missed pulls, blown brake lines, the first known 3-way round launch, 74 square foot hook turn and AWESOME river swoop, 15-way mass exit, and YOUR jumps. Running time 121 minutes. LEMMINGS Landings y2K is the result of a two person effort on the ground to record as many landings as possible. Just as in skydiving, the real "action" is those last couple of millimeters above the ground. In many respects this tape is actually more exciting than LEMMINGS Exits y2K.

35. What Is BASE Jumping?

This page is presented as a short background and description of BASE jumping. The opinions here are solely mine. Don't hold anyone else responsible for them. Kids, don't try this at home. It's likely not high enough. If you have a suggestion, comment, criticism, or question, please send an email You can return to the LEMMINGS homepage BASE jumping is the sport of using a parachute to jump from fixed objects. "BASE" is an acronym that stands for the four categories of objects from which one can jump; (B) uilding, (A) ntenna, (S) pan (the word used for a bridge), and (E) arth (the word used for a cliff). (The word "parachute", as used by jumpers, refers specifically to the parachute canopy itself. Used for this article, however, "parachute" may be a generic reference to the parachute system as a whole, i.e. the parachute canopy, deployment system, container, and body harness.) BASE jumps are generally from much lower height than a traditional airplane parachute jump, although there are notable exceptions. In the United States, an "advanced" skydiver (over 100 airplane skydives) is recommended, on an airplane jump, to deploy the main parachute no lower than 2,000 feet. At that time, if the airplane jumper had already been in freefall for at least 1,000 feet, the jumper is traveling 120 miles per hour, and is 11 seconds from the ground. Some BASE jumps, very high cliffs, can be from heights of over 5,000 feet, though these are rare. Most BASE jumps are made from less than 1,000 feet. A BASE jump from a 500 foot object is about 6 seconds from the ground.

Adrenaline = base jumping. This suit provides wind resistance so to allow thejumper to 'glide'. base jumping is the ultimate of adrenaline sports.
http://www.thebigrush.com.au/air/articles/baseintro.htm
Adrenaline = BASE jumping
Falling to the ground at 200 km/h from a height of less than 1,000 feet is when the average person would question one's sanity…Adrenaline is what it is about and BASE jumping is the purest form. BASE is broken down like this… B is for Buildings, A is for Antennas, S is for Spans and E is for Earth. All involve jumping from heights between 100 to 6,000 feet. BASE jumpers usually jump with only one parachute, no reserve. Quite often there is not enough time to deploy the second chute, even if required. This form of jumping is about risk management. And there is a lot to manage. The tallest man made structures are television towers for example the KDUH tower in Nebraska, USA that is 1,965 feet high. The highest bridge is Colorado's Royal Gorge bridge at 1,053 feet. Trespassing can create a few difficulties for the BASE jumper as these places are quite often patrolled by people who wish to deter the avid jumper. Earth jumps come highly recommended and have many advantages such as the spectacular scenery, lack of authorities and most importantly, height. Places like Venezuela's Angel Falls is 3,212 feet high and 6,000 feet at Canada's Baffin Bay. These places for not for the faint hearted as some are particularly difficult to get to ie. Norway's Kjerag takes nearly three hours to hike to the exit point. Height extends the options available for increasing the experience. Some people have been known to jump facing the sky and not the ground. Eventually one has to turn around so to allow the parachute to deploy correctly.
