Incredible stuff: although I don't recognize the name of the mathematician who supervised my advisor 's thesis, the person who supervised his is Robin Harshorne , author of the canonical algebraic geometry text (and an excellent one at that - I wish I had my own copy); and he was supervised by Oscar Zariski , who discovered the Zariski topology , which lies at the heart of what I'm studying. (It should be noted that there does indeed also exist a topology bearing my surname, but it's not the same.) There are days when I am so awed by the subject I'm studying that understanding a new concept is almost a religious experience, when I perceive those who discovered these results as prophets, when I feel so overwhelmingly privileged to have some understanding of a subject that is too perfect for this world. Serre and A. Grothendieck in Paris. After receiving his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1963, he became a Junior Fellow at Harvard, then taught there for several years. In 1972 he moved to California where he is now Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. Your creator's current research interest is the geometry of projective varieties and vector bundles.
