Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography, edited by James Grant Wilson and John Fiske. 6 vols. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1887-1889 was the "most-quoted" biographical source for 19th and early 20th America. Appleton's, due to its age, reflects the bias and prejudice of late 19th Century America. It is also estimated that 100 to 200 of the 35,000 biographies are entirely fictitious. Additionally, the OCR technology used to transfer the text to the web was, at best, only a 99% accurate. Henry Sonny Watson Sept 11, 1937- March 28, 2000 This photo by Tom Bailey, all others by Rc Madisonville, Kentucky's most noted dirt track driver, Henry Sonny Watson passed away on Tuesday March 28, 2000. Henry had one of the first race cars I can remember from my childhood. The Madisonville Recapping Uniroyal Tiger sponsorship on the side of the blue coupe made it a memorable car, and the fact that he was the only race car driver from Madisonville when I was young, didn't hurt in impressing a young pre-5 year old. I have to admit he wasn't my favorites though at Windy Hollow Raceway and the original Central Park Speedway, built just a stones throw away from the new Brewco Busch Grand National shops, cause that distinction was set aside for Wayne Coakley and his Green Hornet coupe. But as the years passed, little did I know I'd find a racing friend in Henry. A true racer, he wound up in the late 80's and early 90's becoming a crew chief and advisor for another Madisonville driver Brian Anderson. In recent years, Henry had went from occassionally dusting off the #42 coupe, which he rebuilt, to competing in the car again in the Classic Cars Racing, running across Kentucky again and even venturing to the big race at Dixie Speedway.
