Letters from the Road - Part 1 The got milk? Gravity Tour Takes the Checkered Flag at the 28th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach April 12 - April 14, 2002
GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES! AND COMING INTO TURN ONE THE GOT MILK? GRAVITY TOUR TAKES THE LEAD AS THE 2002 TOUR IS UNDERWAY IN LONG BEACH, CA.
The 2002 got milk? Gravity Tour will be rocking at LIVE 105's BFD9, Friday June 14th at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View! Go back to Letters from the Road - Part 2 Turn one at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Arriving in the evening on Thursday, Gravity Team members Jason Richard, Billy Gawrych, Art Thomason, Bob Kohl, and Team Manager Jeff Ferris convened at the Comfort Inn of Long Beach. Since most of the athletes participating in this event live in the Southern California Area, they would meet the team at hotel in the morning for the first day of shows. Show times would also be the earliest in Gravity Tour history as Friday and Saturday events kicked-off at the 11:00am hour while on Sunday the first show was scheduled for 9:15am. The team joked that they normally would never be up that early on Sunday or couldn't recall ever performing that early in their lives. With a shrug of the shoulders everyone was off to bed to rest up for a long weekend of shows. Friday morning: let the games begin. Long Beach becomes quite a maze during Grand Prix weekend and filing into parking spots and into the event itself becomes quite a test. Chris Gentry found his way into the Grand Prix and first time participants Tas Pappas (Skateboard) and Ben Snowden (BMX) met the rest of the team at the hotel then rode over in the team van. Nervous about first event jitters and not enough practice time, team members wondered if they would be able to regain the chemistry they had during last year's tour. All of those questions were soon laid to rest however as Jeff Ferris introduced the team members one by one to a big and lively crowd and finally let loose with an authoritative and growling "PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER FOR THE 2002 GOT MILK? GRAVITY TOUR!" and the tour was under way.

You can take the man out of the backwoods, but you can't take the backwoods out of Billy Bob Thornton. He'll write it into the script. Thornton, who grew up in a number of tiny Arkansas towns and spent his early adult years working manual labor, has run a rags-to-riches course to stardom thanks mostly to his witty use of his more rag-tag experiences. For his film "Sling Blade," Thornton won an Academy Award by painstakingly and lovingly writing, directing and acting the part of Karl Childers, a mentally disabled and emotionally disturbed man who returns to his small Southern town after years in an asylum. Thornton's Hollywood success came less suddenly than "Sling Blade's" black-horse accomplishment has led most moviegoers to believe. For 15 years, Thornton toiled on film sets, acting writing and directing all in an effort to create memorable and meaningful characters. A few years after he "went bowling one night and ended up married" at age 20, as Thornton told a People reporter, his marriage broke up and he and a friend moved to Los Angeles to give showbiz a shot.

Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Bob Thomason 15th Season Record: 2 Graduated: Pacific, 1971 Bob Thomason is in his 15th season at Pacific, and has the most wins in school history with 222. He led the Tigers to back-to-back Big West Western Division championships in 1997 and 1998. Bringing the Pacific basketball program back to the level it enjoyed when he himself wore the Tiger orange and black was the main goal for Bob Thomason when he was hired in March of 1988. As Bob enters his 15th season at his alma mater, his goal has been attained, directing the Tigers to nine winning seasons in the last 10 years for the first time since 1966-75. In 2002, the Tigers finished 20-10, advancing to the semifinals of the Big West Tournament. In 1998, the Tigers came one game from a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, making the school's first-ever National Invitation Tournament appearance. In two of the last six years, Pacific has had a school second-best 16-game winning streak. Five years ago, after losing the first two games of the Big West season, the Tigers reeled off 16 straight games to advance to the Big West Tournament championship game for the second straight year. In 1996-97, Pacific got out of the gate strong, winning 16 in a row after a season-opening loss. Pacific won the Big West Conference championship in 1996-97, Pacific's first title since 1979. The Tigers made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1979, when Pacific took the PCAA crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Pacific has only finished lower than fifth in the Big West once since 1990, winning at least nine league games in eight of the last 10 seasons.

CORNELIA STRONG COLLEGE
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Fourth Annual Buffalo Creek Regatta a Grand Success! The sun was shining (unlike last week), the wind was blowing (to the considerable advantage of boats with sails), the creek was flowing (thanks to the work of the Strong College Corps of Engineers), and a spectacular time was had by all the multitudes at the Fourth Annual Buffalo Creek Regatta, our best Regatta ever. Thousands of prizes were awarded in hundreds of categories, but the three top finishers in the principal divisions of speed, beauty, and creativity were: Head of the Buffalo 1998: Sabrina Payne with The Basket Case Prettiest Boat: Cecilia Ruth Lance with The Garden Weasels Most Original Boat: Michelle Marcelais with Caf Creation The final heat between The Basket Case and Tim Williams The Wanderlust was intense, but the wind filled the sails of The Basket Case and it crossed the finish line first. The names of these winners will go down in the annals of the College and will be remembered for a thousand years.
