The Fishing Temple
George IV's fanciful Fishing temple was located on the north bank of the 150 acre Virginia Water , in the southern end of Windsor Great Park, on the southern waterfront of the island on which the medieval Manor Lodge had formerly stood. Work began on the structure in 1825. An expenditure of 8,730 pounds was necessary to complete the Chinoisery Fishing temple Sir Jeffery Wyatville (1766-1840) had designed for George IV. Until the new building was completed, The King used a series of tents to the east of the island as his lakeside retreat. He had four large and four small tents made from canvas taken from the Ordnance stores. Besides theses purpose built tents there were a number of other tents of different sizes and shapes in a variety of colors which had formerly belonged to Tippoo Sahib . The tents had previously adorned Queen Charlotte's gardens at Frogmore . After the Fishing Temple was completed the tents remained a supplementary accommodation for the King's guests at Virginia Water The Fishing Temple consisted of a rectangular block containing the principal room; the southern end of this room overhung the water and was supported on six brick arches. Attached to the main block were two smaller octagonal buildings to the north, sited at either side of the central entrance. Ornate oriental pinnacles surmounted the three roofs of the temple.

St. George L.D.S. Temple
A Holy Temple in St. George 1871-1877 A Miracle of its Time
Early pioneers who were part of the St. George settlement in 1871 faced a life of unusual hardship. They feared the scorching summer months and the heavy spring rains followed by frequent flooding of the Virgin and Santa Clara rivers. They were a people struggling, fighting poverty and only ten years from the time of settlement. And yet, through their strong faith and trust in God and under the direction of a prophet they chose to erect a building of grand magnitude and proportion on the frontier, and within just a five and one half year period. Outlined by the brilliant red hills of Dixie, this Temple stands today. It's pristine, white beauty reflects the sacrifice of a people whose basic belief in God was foremost in their lives.
Creating a Temple in the Wilderness How Did They Do It ?
Brigham Young, second prophet and president of the Church was at his winter home in St. George when he asked the members if they would be willing to build a Temple. The settlers gave a resounding approval and under the able leadership of President Erastus Snow, the plans were set in motion. It seemed an impossible project at the time but this faithful people knew the blessings that would come from having a House of the Lord in their midst.

George Temple was educated in London. In 1918 he entered Birkbeck College as an evening student (the College had previously been known as London Mechanic's Institution and in 1920 was recognised as a school of the University of London for evening and part-time students). George became a part-time research assistant in physics there the following year. He received his B.Sc. in 1922, then two years later he was appointed Demonstrator in Mathematics at Imperial College, London. Whitehead had been the main reason for Temple's move to Imperial as he had been interested in papers in relativity which Temple had published. However Whitehead left the chair at Imperial as Temple arrived and Chapman was appointed to fill the chair. Chapman obtained a scholarship for Temple to undertake further research and he spent a year at Imperial working on quantum theory before going to Cambridge where he worked with Eddington Temple returned to Imperial as a Reader in 1930, then two years later was appointed to the chair of mathematics at King's College London. During World War II he worked at RAF Farnborough where his work earned him a CBE. During his time in Farnborough he worked on aerodynamics and supersonic fluid flow.

The Temple Mount, Jerusalem
  • The Temple Mount in Jerusalem is also known as Har HaBayit and Haram esh Sharif. Generally, it is the quietest and most beautiful area within the walls of the Old City.
  • It is, by far, the most important part of Jerusalem and has been sealed up to non-muslim visitors for two years now
  • The paintings here are part of a collection I prepared between 1991 - 1999 and your opportunity to take a glimpse through a remarkable window in time. The Temple Mount has been flattened many times in history and these paintings record experiences that may be consigned to history very soon

Temple and Country Parson The Temple , critics typically make no attempt to relate his written work to the physical structures in which he worshipped and ministered and which, in a number of cases, he helped rebuild and even redesign. Herbert wrote at a time when the arranging of church interiors was anything but irrelevant. With the Reformation came a re-evaluation of the uses of the church building. Long-standing hierarchical and mystical conceptions of sacred space were challenged by a new imperative to demystify and to share that space. The Edwardian Book of Common Prayer Writing the Church The value George Herbert places on architecture in his poetry is borne out in his re-building of actual churches. As Amy Charles points out so much his whole business that he became restless, till he saw it finished as it now stands; being, for the workmanship, a costly mosaic; for the form, an exact cross; and for the decency and beauty, I am assured it is the most remarkable parish church that this nation affords. (282-83) In rebuilding this church, Herbert consciously wrote sacred space, producing a building of expensive workmanship which the congregation could read according to the mode of
