on of Edmund Dutton, Peter was born 1367. At 25 years old, he inherited the Dutton estate of his Uncle Lawrence who died 1392 without issue. Peter was appointed Constable of the Castle of Chirk in Wales on 2 Oct 1397, 21 Ric.2, (DKR 31:194) A constable is an officer of high rank and a keeper or governor of a royal fortress or castle. Peter may have engaged in the Scottish wars of 1400-03 under the leadership of the Earl of Northumberland, Henry Percy Baron of Alnwich, and his son, Hotspur. While Henry Percy had served the crown loyally and well, he and his son complained of inadequate funds and rewards in prosecuting the wars and of being deprived of ransoms for their Scottish prisoners. They turned against the king and in alliance with the Welsh leader, Owen Glendower, raised a large force. In rebellion at the battle of Shrewsbury (21 July 1403), Hotspur was slain and Henry's brother, the Earl of Worcester, was captured and beheaded." (EBO) On 3 Nov 1403, 5 Hen.4, Peter Dutton was given a "general pardon...for all the offenses committed by him whilst in rebellion with Henry Percy the son, and other rebels." (DKR 29:63) Other pardoned rebellion participants were: William de Stanley, Kt., and his son, William de Stanley; Thomas Aleyn; Laurence Fyton; James de Pulle; John de Pulle, Kt; Richard de Bromley; John de Lytherland; John de Kyngesleye."

Agassiz, Jean Louis [1807 - 1873]
Agassiz was a Swiss born geologist and zoologist. He emigrated to the United States in 1846 and was a professor of natural history at Harvard University from 1847-73. He developed the novel theory that a previous ice age once engulfed the entire surface of the earth and supposedly this ice age separated the two "creation events" of god. Determined to prove himself right, Agassiz spent time in the Amazon Basin trying to find proof that glaciers were once there. He was not successful.
Influence
Charles Darwin and Louis Agassiz started a correspondence in the mid-1840's and soon became good friends. When Darwin was thinking about starting a comprehensive study of barnacles in 1846, Agassiz wrote to Darwin that such research was in great demand and he should by all means pursue it. Indeed, when Agassiz heard that Darwin was looking for different varieties of barnacles to study he sent him a huge crate full of specimens. When "Origin of Species" was published in 1859, Darwin sent Agassiz a complimentary 1st edition. Agassiz was not very impressed with Darwin's theory of natural selection, being convinced rather that each species was a separate divine creation ordained by god. During the late 1800's Agassiz became one of the most influential opponents of evolutionary theory in the United States.

Biographical Sketch
Scott's first novel, Johnnie Sahib Alien Sky , published in 1953. India had penetrated Scott's heart deeply; most of his novels are set in India, or use India as a backdrop, as in A Male Child The Mark of the Warrior (1958), and The Chinese Love Pavilion The Alien Sky aired on B.B.C. television in London in 1956. The Birds of Paradise (1962) continued Scott's preoccupation with India, whereas The Bender (1963) is set solely in London and explores the importance of work in defining one's role in life and in society. (1964) uses fragments of the life story of a novelist, Edward Thornhill, to piece together the artist's world of the creative imagination in which illusion and fact often vie with each other. Scott returned to India in 1964 and from that visit came the raw material he needed to write his next five novels, all of which centered on the end of British rule in India. The first four novels
