This is an obituary of Mina Rees . She was one of the most influential women in mathematics after World War II.
This is the text of a colloquium lecture
, "How Many Women Mathematicians Can You Name?," that I gave in June 2000 to the Summer Undergraduate Mathematical Science Research Institute (SUMSRI) at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
This is a book review of "Women Becoming Mathematicians" by Margaret A. M. Murray
. The book is about American women who earned Ph.D.'s in mathematics between 1940 and 1959. This is a broadcast of a radio call-in talk show interview , 3 March 2001, in which I discuss women in mathematics.

Ms. Judith Waldman The Mina Rees Library is located on three floors of The Graduate Center at 365 Fifth Avenue. The entrance to the Mina Rees Library is on the ground floor, where a separate library elevator and an interior stairway lead up to the second floor and down to the concourse level. Circulation, reserves, the dissertation collection, dissertation assistant, and interlibrary loan office are located on the ground floor. The largest area of the library is on the second floor which houses the reference, periodicals, and circulating collections, the microform collection, and the music and video-viewing room, as well as the reference desk and library staff offices. Study tables, many computer-equipped, are located throughout this floor. The computer commons, electronic classrooms, and rooms for group study are located on the concourse level, one floor below the library entrance. Library hours are posted in the library, the lobby, and on the library web site, http://library.gc.cuny.edu. The Mina Rees Library has been designed to meet the special needs of the doctoral programs in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics. The collection includes over 276,000 volumes, 600,000 microforms, and about 1,640 current subscriptions to journals and other serial publications. The Library's growing collection of electronic databases is accessible on PCs in the library and throughout The Graduate Center. A current listing is on the library web site. Over 239,000 art slides are located in the Art History Program's Visual Resources Collection on the third floor. Faculty and registered graduate students may use their Graduate Center ID cards with library bar code to borrow materials from the 20 libraries of The City University of New York system. CUNYPlus (CUNY+), the online public access catalog of the CUNY libraries, is available from PCs throughout The Graduate Center and by dial or web access from any location.

This network provides over 1500 campus computers with high-speed local communications and a gateway to the Internet via CUNYNET. Most computers designated for student use are Dell, Pentium 4 computers equipped with Windows XP operating systems, 256 megabytes of RAM, 256K Cache, 40 gigabyte hard drives, 15 inch flat screen monitors, Zip 250 Disk and DVD-CDRW drives. Also available are laser printers, file format translation, image scanning, and optical character recognition facilities. Information Resources supports several computing platforms providing access to a variety of available software , including systems dedicated to large-scale empirical research. Students may request UNIX accounts to gain access to UNIX-based academic and statistical software.
