BACK Pete the Peacock
Pete
This young peacock showed up in our parking lot in the first few days of September 1999. We have no idea of where he came from, no one around has claimed him, the local animal control girl wants no part of him - she wants ME to catch him, then, she says, she'll pick him up (thanks, hon, but no thanks) and by the way, did you ever try to capture a peacock? Well, it ain't easy - these birds can fly straight up! They can also run - a lot faster than I can! And our two local resident cats, Sam and George will have nothing to do with him.
As a matter of fact, George (the cat) and Pete (the peacock) will wait patiently together for the evening meal. And if Pete thinks George is getting too much food, George gets chased right off.
So, for the time being, it looks like Pete is going to stay - until we figure out how we can catch him without hurting him. We have a "Peacock Lady" that has offered a nice home, with other peacocks, so Pete won't be lonely. If anyone has any other ideas, we'd sure like to hear them.....

Mrs. Peacock
Owner of Arlington Grange, Mrs. Peacock is a sophisticated woman who likes to entertain. She regularly holds fete's, jumble sales, fun runs and other functions at her home. Her relationship with Colonel Mustard has been off and on over the years; and in between she has found romance with a large variety of men. Below is a comparison of the different Mrs. Peacocks and a rating of their hamminess, psychoticness, characterisation and looks (as compared with the boardgame cards). There is also a brief description of the actresses' careers. UK Series 1 - Stephanie Beacham

(1 Meg) Starting the series in style, the first Mrs. Elizabeth Peacock was a very famous name - that of Stephanie Beacham. With a healthy career behind her, Stephanie is most familiar as Sable Colby from "Dynasty" and "The Colbys"; and for the superb Second World War drama "Tenko". Other shows Stephanie has appeared in include "Seaquest DSV" and "Beverly Hills 90210". This Mrs. Peacock was a believable character of high society, who was looking for a man of position - whether it be a French Count or Colonel Mustard in an MP's role. Stephanie's acting history shone through as her character developed relationships with the other suspects; something that she was rewarded with, by giving her the privilege of being the only person to commit two murders in a series and thus have two confessions. Horticultural Products: Heat, Sugar and Solar Drying
Following Appert's introduction of heat processing in bottles, England pioneered the canning of meats and America the canning of horticultural products. As has already been mentioned, there was some attempt quite early in Australia to bottle fruits, and preserved fruits were being offered for sale in Sydney in the 1840s. Jam also was made, especially in Tasmania where the climate is so conducive to the growing of the raw material fruits. It is not surprising, therefore, that in this part of the world jam was first canned in Hobart. Jam is a cooked fruit product with good keeping qualities deriving from the high sugar content, about 65 per cent. In it sugar plays the same part as salt in, say, salted meat products; it lowers the water activity so that micro-organisms cannot grow. The water content of fruit (without stones) ranges from about 78 to 90 per cent, the berry fruits containing say, 85 to 90 per cent, so that even if no water were added to facilitate cooking, it would be necessary to remove some to ensure a stable product. This was, and frequently still is, done by boiling in open pans or kettles. The packaging of jam and of preserved fruits in cans logically follows the trail set by the meat canners.

Descending on us with a beaming smile, the chef announced that we could call him George and proceeded to find out our likes and dislikes and make suggestions from the menu and his many years of experience. Originally from Hong Kong Chef George has worked in the Peacock for several years. Judging by the amount of guests he greeted by name he obviously has a loyal following amongst ex-patriates and locals alike.
So, to the starters. Chef George was particularly keen to show off his Dim Sum dishes, a particular specialty of his. We agreed, as long as we could also have prawns on toast, a particular favourite of mine. An extensive wine menu was also knowledgeably explained to us, although we opted for a couple of rice wines. When in Rome and all that!
