Roger Lyndon 's mother died when he was two years old and his family moved to various towns so, as a consequence, his education took place at a number of different schools. He graduated from Derby School in 1935 and entered Harvard University with the aim of studying literature so that he might become a writer. However, he discovered that, for him, mathematics was easy and required little effort while he had to spend long hours learning literature. The move to mathematics was made and he graduated from Harvard in 1935. Having worked for a year in a bank in Albuquerque, Lyndon returned to Harvard, being awarded a Master's Degree in 1941. He taught at Georgia Tech in session 1941/42, then he returned to Harvard for the third time in 1942 and there taught navigation to pilots while he studied for his doctorate. He was awarded a Ph.D. in 1946 for a thesis on homological algebra , the work being an outstanding early step in the study of spectral sequences. His supervisor was S

For Roger, Holly, Ed and Michelle, her death began a storyline that exploded at the Cliff House in July. We've inserted a few transcripts into our collection here to provide a better overview and review of the events and emotions that precipitated what happened at Cliff House, and we'll insert a few more, and also continue to add transcripts up to and after Cliff House. A Return to the Shadows 1
Victoria Winters opened her eyes, she gasped for air, flashes of light and dark passed before her. "Oh God!" She screamed, then saw Elizabeth Stodard hovering over her, calling out her name. Her eyes darted across the room, Maggie, Julia, Barnabas! Barnabas! Surely she was so confused and disoreinted that she was wrong about she had discovered. "Elizabeth!" She held the older woman tightly. She looked down at her dress, it looked strange compared to her surroundings. Everything was so dim, like it was a dream. She gasped again, and remembered Peter Bradford, the handsome young man who had fought so hard for her, the man who had lost his life for her. Julia Hoffman stepped forward. "Mrs. Stodarrd, I think it would be wise for me to check Victoria, to make sure that she is well and in good health." Elizabeth nodded in agreement. That would be best for her, come everyone, Mrs. Johnson has made some tea for us." She touched Barnabas on the shoulder lightly. "Cousin Barnabas, if you would like you may stay, I know how much you care for Victoria.." "Thank you Elizabeth, I think that I shall stay for a few moments."

April 13, 1993 SCENE: CEDARS HOSPITAL. ED is on the phone, talking to HOLLY. ED: Holly, how’s she doing? HOLLY: Okay, considering we both polished off a carton of double-fudge-brownie ice cream last night before we went to bed! ED: Listen, I talked to Dr. Lyndon about setting up an appointment and she’s got some time free at ten this morning. HOLLY: Fine. ED: The only thing is I’m kinda tied up here. HOLLY: No problem. I’ll bring her by. ED: I hate to keep putting you in the middle like this. HOLLY: We’ll be there before ten. . . . Ed, it’ll be okay. They hang up, and HOLLY turns to a tense-looking MICHELLE. On the same morning, ROGER sits at his desk at SPAULDING ENTERPRISES, examining a folder that contains, among other papers, a photograph of H.B. LEWIS. He turns on his intercom. ROGER: My daughter hasn’t come in yet? SECRETARY: No sir, I’ve checked with reception twice. ROGER: Tell them I want to see her the minute she gets here. JENNA breezes into the office in a becoming white suit. JENNA: Is it me you want to see? ROGER: Well, you’re in bright and early!

    IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL
I n 1961, Roger Stevens began his long career in Washington, D.C., when President John F. Kennedy appointed him chairman of the National Cultural Center, the performing arts complex planned for Washington and later named for Kennedy. Under President Lyndon Johnson, Stevens assumed responsibility for other arts-related activities, becoming Johnson's advisor on the arts in 1964 and, in 1965, chairman of the new National Council on the Arts, composed of leading figures from the cultural world. In September 1965, Stevens became chairman of the new National Endowment for the Arts. At the same time, Stevens continued to realize plans for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. On September 8, 1971, the Kennedy Center opened with the world premiere of Mass, specially commissioned from Leonard Bernstein. Presented in the Opera House, Mass was later dedicated to Roger Stevens. Stevens continued as the center's chairman of the board until 1988. During Stevens's tenure, the center both created new productions and hosted an impressive array of world-class artists and performing companies. Not surprisingly, many of the plays were produced in association with Stevens.

    INTRODUCTION
F or almost half of the twentieth century, Roger Lacey Stevens was a dominant force as a theatrical producer, arts administrator, and real estate entrepreneur. A highly successful real estate broker who once owned the Empire State Building, Stevens backed his first Broadway show in 1949. He quickly established himself as a significant power in the theater, both in the United States and in Britain. During the 1950s and 1960s, he become a major theatrical producer, presenting more than 100 plays and musicals, including West Side Story Bus Stop Cat on a Hot Tin Roof A Man for All Seasons and Tea and Sympathy . Stevens's enormous range of accomplishments includes fostering high-quality theatrical productions; organizing the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and serving as its first chairman; establishing the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and becoming its first chairman. "The Stevens Angle," he said in a 1957 interview, "is this: whatever I get involved in happens ."

Things got rolling an hour late due to Bruce Campbell's five hour booksigning that grew to six hours. Once everyone was inside, and event organizer Steve had made certain that everyone had a seat, Bruce came out to introduce the film. He made mention of the fact that it was an independent film, and that it may never see a wide theatrical release, but we'll surely see it on DVD and video one of these days. He also told us a little about his role. He played the lead character, Elvis Presley. An elderly Elvis Presley who is alive because he traded places with an Elvis impersonator. An elderly Elvis who ends up battling an ancient evil in a Texas rest home. (Yeah, I know it sounds odd, but trust me, it worked!)
Bruce Campbell did an excellent job as Elvis. I found myself forgetting who the man behind the make-up was, and enjoying the character. Character development was excellent for both Elivis, and John F. Kennedy (Ossie Davis). Oh, when I say John F. Kennedy, I'm talking about an off-his-rocker resident of the rest home who believes that he's JFK dyed black and with a bag of sand replacing is brain. He's also positive that Lyndon Johnson is out to assassinate him. Sounds wacky I know, but he's also the one who first figures out just what's happening at Shady Rest.
And just what is happening you wonder? A mummy, dubbed Bubba Ho-Tep by Elvis, is entering the rest home at night to suck the souls of its residents. Its a fate worse than death, and our intrepid heroes want nothing to do with it! After all, what could be worse than death, and having your soul digested and excreted to boot?!
