HYMAN JEBB LEVY. Hyman Levy was born in 1926 to loving parents Louisand Bella Levy of Rochester, New York. He was one of four children
http://www.lastar.org/jebbpage.htm
HYMAN JEBB LEVY With his brother Matt, Jebb would find his niche producing high quality ladies apparel. His company Loubella Extendables was named after his parents Louis and Bella. The clothing line was a success and an established part of the fashion of the day. The company would stay in operation for forty-five years. Jebb has a family and enjoyed time spent with his children Cathy, Lori, and Jack. Today, Hyman Jebb Levy and his beautiful wife Donna are active supporters of Jewish education. Together, they make their presence felt in the community and are dedicated members of Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel. Jebb's parents worked hard to instill within their children the sacred traditions of the Jewish people, the love of their Sephardic heritage, and the moral and ethic values of Tzedakah, righteous charitable giving. Jebb's own actions stand as testimony to the wisdom and grace of his parent's teachings that gives a person a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. It is a lesson to us all on the value of motivating our children to do acts of kindness.

Hyman Levy
Mathematician, philosopher and humanist. Born in Edinburgh into an orthodox Jewish family, Levy was the son of an art dealer. Educated at George Heriot's School and the University of Edinburgh, where he read mathematics and physics. He worked in Germany until the outbreak of World War I, when he went to work in England, initially at Oxford and then Imperial College (London) where he was appointed Professor of Mathematics in 1923. He published in the field of probability and differential equations, together with various works on philosophy, including The Universe of Science A committed socialist, Levy joined the Labour Party in the 1920s. He joined the Communist Party in 1931, however in the 1950s he became concerned about the treatment of Russian Jews and campaigned vigorously for their human rights to the extent that he was expelled from the party in 1958.

Hyman Levy 's father was a dealer in paintings in Edinburgh. Hyman was the third of eight children in the orthodox Jewish family. The actual date of his birth seems a little hard to determine, given as 7 March in Who's Who and one has to assume that Levy himself supplied this information. Yet Barnard in [1] claims that although 7 March appears on his birth certificate this is incorrect and his actual date of birth was 28 February. Hilbert and Runge . Escaping from Germany, he returned to England where he worked at the University of Oxford with A E H Love until 1916. In 1916 Levy was honoured by being elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Then, between 1916 and 1920, he worked as a member of the aeronautics research staff of the National Physical Laboratory. Levy left the National Physical Laboratory in 1920 and became an assistant professor of mathematics at the Royal College of Science of the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London. He was promoted to Professor of Mathematics three years later, then, in 1946, he became Head of the Mathematics and Mechanics Department. Under his leadership the Department expanded greatly and he also provided leadership to the whole of the Royal College of Science, being its Dean from 1946 to 1952. In 1954 Levy retired and became Professor Emeritus but he agreed to continue to act as head of the mathematics department at Imperial College for one further year until 1955.

He may have come from Eastern Europe to Plymouth, or have been born in Plymouth, but by 1776 he was in Dartmouth (Susser archives). He was a Hayim (leader of the Jewish community) of Dartmouth, and may have been a founder of a Synagogue there (although no trace or records of this exist). He married RACHAEL BAT ABRAHAM Abt. 1802. She was born 1783 in Plymouth, and died 1863 in Plymouth. Aaron lived and worked in Dartmouth but had strong links with Plymouth, where he was involved with the Synagogue. Within hours of his death he was taken to Plymouth, where he was buried. His wife Rachael and their children returned to live permanently in Plymouth. The Synagogue at Plymouth. Very plain on the outside but beautiful inside. The main altar was a present from the Jewish community in Amsterdam, sent in the 1700s.
