Ahhh ... the Serenity
Flats Fishing on a Budget in Mexico
by Steve Morgan
AFTER forty hours of travelling, of sleeping in airport waiting lounges on three continents; of deciding whether American English or Spanish was more difficult to understand - and for the last ten minutes, sweating profusely - I finally left the bags unattended and tested the hammock. Sun-up ... time to go bonefishing.
Face to face with billy the bonefish.

Most people look for a bed or a beach to continue their relaxation.
PUNTA ALLEN
Punta Allen - at the end of the road to nowhere.
BONEYS .... BIG BONEYS
Actually, I lie. Some of the abundant longboats adorning the Caribbean beach front have 60hp Yamahas and the fact that I could see only Yammies in the 100 strong fleet speaks volumes for their reliability in the tropics.
My first came half an hour after we started wading the flats.
Never backwards in coming forward, when John and Tony were deciding who was going to have the first shot, I grabbed Gaspar and started wading and after chasing several shadows, I finally came face to face with a small school.
They were feeding in a rock-lined sandy bay about ten metres in diameter - about eight fish cruising slowly and digging their noses in the sand. Careful not to spook the fish by laying the #9 Bonefish line across their backs, I dropped the brown Charlie six feet ahead of the leading fish.

The People Behind The ATF3
The ATF3 didn't just happen... it is the result of millions of man hours, poured into it by dedicated professionals over a span of more than three decades. One of the few people who was present on the program for the majority of those three decades, John Evans, has compiled a list of Garrett people who have worked on the program at one time or another. Thanks also to Rick Burkmier and Mark McSorley Although John's memory is excellent, we apologize if we inadvertently missed any individuals. If you contributed to the program and are not on the list, please e-mail me so I can add you to the list. Except for one, the list does not contain people within the U.S. Coast Guard or at Dassault who contributed to the development of the engine. I would like to add you also, so please e-mail me with your story. We're also trying to compile a short bio of each person on the list with a photo. The ones for which I have a bio will have a hyperlink on the name. Click on it to read the person's bio. If you'd like to submit a bio, check the bio page to see what information we're gathering and e-mail it to me with a face shot of yourself.

by WorldWeb Travel Guide
Venice Beach, Los Angeles Perhaps nowhere else in the world belongs to the world like Los Angeles . Of course this is cultivated by L.A.'s position as the epicenter of the world movie and television industry. It seems that almost the whole universe is intimate with Los Angeles - as the products of its most notable industry are beamed into hundreds of millions of homes every single day, and that at any given time Hollywood films are being shown in hundreds of thousands of movie theaters. Internet users are also inundated with images of and gossip about Hollywood's famous celebrities from their movies to their personal lives, as is print media - in hundreds of different languages. This domination of world media makes L.A. a much sought-after destination with people from everywhere. Many visit L.A. and love the place so much, they return as soon as they can - permanently. For most though, L.A. is the destination for that dream vacation. There is so much to do here one definitely has to set priorities. For some the ultimate goal is 'star' gazing in Beverly Hills or walking around the famous streets of Hollywood . For others swimming and surfing in the warm California sun on one of the area's many beaches is a fantasy fulfilled. Of course for families Disneyland Universal Studios and Knott's Berry Farm - are the culmination of a dream for both the young and the young at heart. In addition to these popular standards, there are also countless things to see and do in L.A. that cater to all possible tastes - museums, art galleries, events and happenings. Whatever the cultural or artistic scene - it will have some presence in Los Angeles.

Where Do They Find These Names AB's and FYI's by Allen Amsbaugh Over the years, the ASRS has received many reports regarding navigational identifiers that sound similar to other fixes, or are not spelled in a logical fashion. Two caught my eye recently and were the impetus for this article. The first incident was reported by two crew members. One of these reporters stated:
  • "Enroute to PDX from DEN. Near BOI cleared direct DUFUR, direct PDX. Inadvertently spelled DUFER into the FMC. Note: DUFER is 14 DME, ILS 16R Seattle. Since the course seemed reasonable, I did not double-check for route deviation DUFER to PDX. A lesson learned! I am surprised that two intersections would be so close with similar names." (# 258559, 258669)
SEA is about 50 miles farther from BOI than PDX, and about 17 degrees farther to the north. The ARTCC Controller rectified the situation by a gentle, "Where are you going?" The ASRS has issued a For Your Information Notice (see the sidebar about AB's and FYI'S at the end of this article) to the appropriate agencies and FAA offices in an attempt to rectify this problem. It was recommended that the name be changed on one of the intersections. We all hope that one of the spellings will not be changed to DOOFR!

The End of Frequent-Crawling? [UPDATED] . UPDATE: Google spokesman Nate Tyler responds:We are in the process of an index switchover and have had to focus some of our technical resources on deploying it. I expect that we'll have things back on track shortly. Don't worry, the fresh crawl isn't going away. Google's ongoing goal is to enable our users to find more of the web's freshest content and this includes bloggers. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. [ Google Weblog
