Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography, edited by James Grant Wilson and John Fiske. 6 vols. New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1887-1889 was the "most-quoted" biographical source for 19th and early 20th America. Appleton's, due to its age, reflects the bias and prejudice of late 19th Century America. It is also estimated that 100 to 200 of the 35,000 biographies are entirely fictitious. Additionally, the OCR technology used to transfer the text to the web was, at best, only a 99% accurate. HORNER CEMETERY Horner Cemetery, April 1999 This cemetery, unnamed on the U.S.G.S. Pope quadrangle, is located at the mouth of McGee Hollow, south of what the map marks as Horner Church. Immediately next to this marker is another older marker for the same William Horner. This marker was intact in 1988 but was missing the top in 1999. In addition, this small cemetery contains two cairns built of cut, stacked stones (hidden in vegetation in photo). Both were in poor condition from neglect in 1988 and had been vandalized before 1999. There are no surviving markings on either. Terry McDonald, occupant of the Horner house in 1999, estimates that there are up to seven burials here. According to A Horner Legacy by Fredalene Cooper Horner: "William and Nancy Horner owned slaves, so there are five graves marked with stones. These were graves of his slaves that were buried in the Horner Cemetery on Cedar Creek." Nancy Horner was Nancy Randle, daughter of Amos Randle (2/13/1799-3/10/1881) and Rebecca Finn (1/15/1798-7/23/1867). Return to Perry County, Tennessee Cemeteries

The Zoetrope was a cylindrical toy through which one can see a picture move. The rotating drum has equally spaced peepholes on the outside, and a series of still images on the inside showing a figure in graduating stages of motion. As the drum spins (faster than 12 images per second), the dark frames of the still pictures disappear and the figure appears to move.
