Making Missouri Green by Amber Cox
The George O. White State Forest Nursery Celebrates 50 Years of Tree Production
The people who plant the seeds and package the bundles have changed. Buildings have expanded and changed colors. Yet through its existence, the role of the George O. White State Forest Nursery has remained the same. Since 1935, the nursery, located in Texas County, approximately three miles northwest of Licking, has provided millions of trees to Missouri landowners and forest industries for conservation planting. This year, the nursery is celebrating 50 years of tree production under the Missouri Department of Conservation. The Conservation Department took over the nursery from the United States Forest Service in 1947 and distributed its first crop of seedlings in 1948. In 1934, the Forest Service designated national forests in Missouri. Thousands of acres were in need of reforestation after indiscriminate logging and wildfires wiped out much of Missouri's forests. George O. White, a Forest Service forester, selected the original 40-acre site for the nursery in 1934. He chose the site because it was centrally located within the national forests and the soil looked good for growing shortleaf pine trees. The Forest Service purchased the acreage in 1935 for $1,430. White later became Missouri's first state forester in 1936. Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Work Projects Administration workers, employed by the Forest Service, constructed a home for the head nurseryman, a shop and warehouse, a deep well and a cold storage building. Workers also built two barracks, where they slept, plus a kitchen and mess hall.

It is meant to be a history for the benefit of my family and those to come and for those having relatives who served in the Battalion and want to track the 10 th Battalions movements during World War 1 . Wherever possible I have concentrated on " dates and places " as some people may wish to visit the Battle sites and follow in their footsteps . Most of all I want it to be a record dedicated to him and his mates so that they and their sacrifices ,should never be forgotten .None of the following would have possible without the help of : Lt. position statement

"I support the principles and share the values of the Green Party. I see my candidacy for the 25th district Congressional seat as an opportunity to enter into a dialogue with the people of the district about how to achieve a just society and a sustainable future using those principles and exercising those values. "In the campaign I intend to highlight the following issues and to challenge my opponents to say exactly where they stand on them: Medicare for everyone
A single-payer health care system for every American. It will assure everyone access to care and eliminate the enormous bureaucratic waste and distortion of medical decisions by profit-driven corporations. Coverage of the plan will extend to prescription drugs and adequate long-term nursing care.

GREEN, GEORGE CURTIS JR. Updated by the P.O.W. NETWORK in 1998. REMARKS: SYNOPSIS: Sgt. George C. Green Jr. was a rifleman assigned to Special Operations Augmentation, Command & Control Detachment, MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam Studies and Observation Group). MACV-SOG was a joint service high command unconventional warfare task force engaged in highly classified operations throughout Southeast Asia. The 5th Special Forces channeled personnel into MACV-SOG (although it was not a Special Forces group) through Special Operations Augmentation (SOA), which provided their "cover" while under secret orders to MACV-SOG. The teams performed deep penetration missions of strategic reconnaissance and interdiction which were called, depending on the time frame, "Shining Brass" or "Prairie Fire" missions. Green's long range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP) was operating in Attopeu Province, Laos about 20 miles west of the South Vietnamese city of Dak Sut on December 4, 1970. At 0920 hours that day, the enemy assaulted the team at a landing zone (LZ) with rifle fire and rocket propelled grenades. Green was hit three times and was instantly killed. Because of the intensity of the enemy attack and fire, the recon team had to leave Green's remains behind. Later aerial searches were made of the area, but Green's body was not seen. Because of enemy control of the area, no ground search was possible. Green is one of nearly 600 Americans lost in Laos. Although the communist government of Laos stated publicly that they held American prisoners, they insisted the POWs would be released only from Laos. The U.S. would not negotiate with the communist faction, a "government" they did not officially recognize, and as a result, not one American held in Laos was ever released. For every insertion like Green's that were detected and stopped, dozens of other commando teams safely slipped past NVA lines to strike a wide range of targets and collect vital information. The number of MACV-SOG missions conducted with Special Forces reconnaissance teams into Laos and Cambodia was 452 in 1969. It was the most sustained American campaign of raiding, sabotage and intelligence-gathering waged on foreign soil in U.S. military history. MACV-SOG's teams earned a global reputation as one of the most combat effective deep-penetration forces ever raised. The missions Green and others were assigned were exceedingly dangerous and of strategic importance. The men who were put into such situations knew the chances of their recovery if captured was slim to none. They quite naturally assumed that their freedom would come by the end of the war. For 591 Americans, freedom did come at the end of the war. For another nearly 600 lost in Laos, however, freedom has never come. Since the war ended, nearly 10,000 reports relating to missing Americans in Southeast Asia have been received by the U.S., convincing many authorities that hundreds remain alive in captivity. While Green may not be among them, one can imagine his pride in mounting one more mission to help them to freedom. What are we doing to bring these men home?

http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/Biographies/MainBiographies/G/Green/1.html
Green, George
English mathematician who coined the term 'potential', now a central concept in electricity, and introduced Green's theorem, which is still applied in the solution of partial differential equations; for instance, in the study of relativity.
Green was born in Nottingham and studied mathematics by himself until at the age of 40 he became a student at Cambridge, and later a member of the staff.
Green's groundbreaking paper was published 1828 and in it he demonstrated the importance of 'potential function' (also known as the Green function) in both magnetism and electricity, and showed how the Green theorem enabled volume integrals to be reduced to surface integrals. It stimulated great interest, and was to influence such scientists as James Clerk Maxwell and Lord Kelvin.
Green went on to produce other important papers on fluids (1832, 1833), attraction (1833), waves in fluids (1837), sound (1837), and light (1837).
